Yuuki Miaka is a 15 year old girl in junior high, who's majorly cramming to go to the top high school there is, being accompanied by Hongo Yui, Miaka's best friend from childhood. But she's only doing it for her mother.
Miaka and Yui came upon a book in a restricted room in the library. The book is called "The Universe of the Four Gods." The two are sucked into the book, appearing in a foreign landscape that looks like Ancient China. The place is full of thieves and slavers, and a really hot, money loving 17 year old hero.
Their curiosity sends them back and forth between the book and their own world. Can Miaka and Yui make it through, having their friendship and trust tested to its extent? And what happens for Miaka and Tamahome if he's only a book character?
