Tohru Honda
The main character, Tohru is a 16 year old girl with a heart of gold! She's very kind and always considers others before herself. She can be very clumsy and oblivious, but she is gifted with wisdom and an optimistic attitude. Even though she lost her parents, she still smiles and cheers everyone up. Because of this, her tender heart has affected all whom she meets.
She works as a janitor for extra money, and lives with Shigure, Yuki and Kyo. She's their housekeeper, freind, and the only person whom knows of the zodiac curse outside the family..
Kyo Sohma
Kyo is the cursed Cat of the zodiac. According to the tale, the cat was tricked by the rat about a banquet God was holding. Since the cat didn't attend, being tricked into thinking it was the next day, the cat was left out of the celebration, and the zodiac. Because of this, Kyo has a grudge against Yuki Sohma, the rat. Kyo though is a bashful guy with a big heart, though he has trouble espressing his true feelings. Instead, he expresses his emotions through anger and fighting. Being a martial artist, he tries to defeat Yuki to become a member of the Zodiac.
Seemingly, Tohru has softened Kyo's angry heart, Being that Tohru helped Kyo when he struggled in his true form.
Yuki Sohma
Yuki, known as 'Prince Yuki Sohma', is the rat of the zodiac. The rat was the one who tricked the cat into missing the banquet. Yuki is popular amoung the girls at his school (He has a fanclub, Prince Yuki Fanclub- or YFC), and beats Kyo in martial arts. But Yuki, as well as the rest of the zodiac, had an upsetting past. Akito would abuse Yuki mentally, so Yuki fears him the most. Yuki has trouble expressing his true feelings as well, as he hides behing an expressionles mask most of the time. He is very responsible and is a member of the Student Council. (Attends the same school as Kyo, Tohru, Momiji and Haru.)
Yuki is the same age as Kyo (Between 16-17)
Shigure Sohma
Shigure is the dog of the Zodiac. He, Ayame and Hatori are known as the Three Musketeers. Shigure is a very cheery and somewhat perverted characters, but is very kind and lovable. Shigure loves to tease people, but he lives to mess with his editor, Mit-chan. However, he can be very serious. Known as Akito's trusted man, Shigure seems to be slightly untrustworthy at times. Shigure loves Tohru, in a freindly way of course. This dog is just overly unpredictable! You never know what side he's on, or what he's really thinking. As he says.. "Que Sera Sera!"
Kagura Sohma
Kagura is the boar of the zodiac. She loves Kyo. Correction: She is obsessed over Kyo. Unfortunatly, Kyo isn't. Kyo dispises poor Kagura. Mainly bcause of Kagura's attitude towards him. Kagura expresses her love in a violentl matter. One minuted she says "I love you Kyo.." but it rails off into her screaming and chasing him around Shigure's house, wrecking the whole area. Kagura is a very sweet girl, and can be shy and quiet at first, before she's loud and obbsesive. Kagura though, is 18-19 (2 years older than Kyo, Tohru and Yuki.) and lives at the Sohma estate, instead of at Shigure's house. In that case, she doesn't see Kyo often, much to his relief. Despite the way she acts, she truly does care about Kyo and loves him with all her heart. 
Momiji Sohma
Momiji is the rabbit of the zodiac, and half German, half Japanese. (German on his mothers' side.) He's very freindly and cute. He acts very childish and hyper, but he's 15. Momiji's mother rejected him when he was a child, so she had her memories erased and no longer remembers this loving little boy. Momiji sees her though, when he visits his fathers work (Where Tohru is janitor) and sometimes visits Tohru as well! He has a little sister names Momo, but she isn't cursed, nor knows of the curse. Momiji loves Tohru to death, and likes to visit her. He's a very sweet little boy, with a sad history.
Hatsuharu Sohma
Hatsuharu, also known as Haru, is the cow/ox, and is the same age as Momiji. Haru has two sides of his personality.. White Haru, and Black Haru. White Haru is easy to get along with, he's calm and reserved. White Haru is also blunt and doesn't talk much, untill he is annoyed to a certain point.
Then, Haru is Black Haru. Black Haru is very aggressive and loud, not like Kagura though. Since Haru knows martial arts as well, he fights. Black Haru is also somewhat perverted, he's said some nasty things to Tohru, whom was oblivious to them. (Not insulting, just suggesting to do stuff little Tohru doesn't know about.) But of course, when that happends Kyo and Yuki automatically shut him up (With violence I might add.) Haru isnt gay, but he did say Yuki was his first love, and seems to act gay around him. But Haru and Rin were a couple at one point, so I don't know. Haru is a very cool character though, both White and Black.
Hatori Sohma
Hatori is the Dragon of the zodiac, though he transforms into a seahorse. He is also the family doctor, and takes care of the sickly Akito. He is a very serious guy, but kind as well. His past love, Kana, had lost her memories because of him. How you ask? Well, Hatori has the gift to erase soemone's memories. This technique is how outsiders, whom saw a zodaic transform, lose their memories. (Also Momijis' mother, btw.) Hatori regrets hurting Kana, but is glad she is happy now. (She's getting maried..) To him, Tohru reminds him of Kana, so he is very kind to her, and wants to protect her from Akito's wrath. Hatori is said to be a cold man, because he erases memories, but Tohru thinks he's a kind and respectful man. Hatori is also part of the Three Musketeers.
Ayame Sohma
Ayame is the snake! He's a confident character and Yuki's older brother. Since Ayame had little to dow ith Yuki in his childhood, and pushed him away at the one time Yuki needed him most, Ayame is now set on to bridge the gap between them. Of course, Ayame doesn't do this to well. Ayame is like Shigure in the perverted sence, and the two joke like their a couple. Ayame also owns a dress shop, where he 'sells romance' as they say. Although Ayame is a loud and obnoxious guy, who gets on Kyo's and Yuki's nerves, his confidence and assertive behavior is admirable. Ayame only listens to Hatori though, because Ayame looks up to him. (Since Hatori is such a respectful and cool kinda guy.. Haha!) Ayame is a freindly guy, and his deepest wish is to become the big brother he never was.
Kisa Sohma
Kisa, who is abour 12-13, is the tiger of the zodiac. Though she's a tiger, she is a very shy and quiet girl. Not only is she shy, but she is absolutely adorable! Kisa's mother is very protective over her, and when Kisa was being picked on by students because of her hair and eyes, she closed up and died a little inside. But when she ran away, Tohru and Kisa's mom found her. Her mother, who was very worried and felt untrusted, wuestioned why Kisa didn't come to her. Tohru explained what she thought was troubling the little tiger, and having hit the nail right on the spot, Kisa was instantly freinds with Tohru. In fact, Kisa stayed with Shigure for a few days, following Tohru around like a little duckling. Tohru loves Kisa, and witht he help of Yuki and Haru, Kisa was able to go back to school and face the world again with confidence. Tohru is a very sweet and adorable girl, who loves to play with Hiro.
Hiro Sohma
Hiro is the ram/sheep of the zodiac. This bow, like Kisa, is different that his animal seems to act. Even though Hiro is 11-12, he is a very mature boy with a venomous tounge. He picks on Tohru because he's jealous of the attentions she gets from Kisa. Unbeknowingst to Kisa, Hiro loves the girl and would do anythin to protect her. The reason he didn't do anything when she was teased was because of an experience with Akito. (Akito pushed Kisa into the wall after Hiro told Akito he loved her.) Hiro can be very sarcastic, and dreads visiting Tohru, but he is a very clever and caring boy. Tohru knows he is, and wants to becomes freinds with Hiro, but Hiro still doesn't care for her, because of his feelings for Kisa.
Ritsu Sohma
I know what you're thinking about the monkey of the zodiac. What a cute girl. Well guys, hate to be a fantasy wrecker, but Ritsu is a guy. Ritsu is very clumsy and messes things up. But he is very appologetic about it. He hates himself because of what he is, and wears womens clothng because he feels more comfortable in them. He feels like he doesn't have to be assertive or confident. He admires Ayame because of this. As a boy, Ritsu messed up alot and his parents would appologize over and over because of this. Ritsu always felt so horrible about that, and so he dresed in womens clothing. He wants his mother to be proud of him, and he tries being assertive as best he can. Ritsu was helped by Tohru when she talked to him about it, and Ritsu was very thankful for that. He is a very kind and hanking person as well, and he tries his best to make things easier for others.
Akito Sohma
Akito is the 'god' of the zodiac. The only curse he suffers is a sickly body, and the knowledge that he will die young. Akito is a cold and vicious 17 year old, whom abused the members of the zodiac except Kagura (he's scared of her I think XD) Akito hates Tohru Honda, and tries to tormenter her through sick words of hatred. Tohru tries her best to not listen, and gives him the benifit of the doubt. She is however scared of Akito, but tells herself he isn't a bad person. Akito almost got Hatori to erase her memories, but was quote "Tricked by her words" unquote. Akito will stop at nothing to get the zodiac members to come back to him, instead of looking at Tohru for freindship. Of course, Akito also will have Kyo locked up after High School, and loves to bring things like that up with a sickening laugh. 
Rin Sohma
Rin is the hourse of the zodiac. She's mysterious and, as of this writing, very little is known about her background. She does, however, seem to have an affinity for tight, short, trendy clothing and thigh-high boots The vibe I get from her is that she's rebellious, angsty...and she's planning something. Whatever it is, it seems to involve Shigure... Also, Rin and Haru were a couple once, but Rin wound up breaking up with him for an "unknown" reason. Rin was hospitalized for a while, but is now living with Kagura and her mom. Little is known about Rin's immediate family, but I think she had problems with her father.
Kureno Sohma
Kureno is (apparently) the very last juunishi to be revealed in the manga, the rooster. Little is known about Kureno other than the fact that Akito likes to keep him away from the other juunishi (they only get to see him on New Year's) and that he is always at Akito's beck and call. It would seem that of all the juunishi, Kureno is the only one that must tend to Akito's needs 24 hours a day! Despite being around the same age as the Musketeers, Kureno seems to lack the freedom that they and the younger juunishi enjoy. Kureno hardly ever gets to go outside the Main House and on one of the occassions when Akito did let him leave, he met Uo at the convenience store where she works! As of this writing, there is no available info regarding Kureno's past or immediate family.
Saki Hanajima
Hanajima, or Hana-chan, is one of Tohru's best friends. She is very protective of Tohru, and is very capable in that protection due to her power over depna waves. She watches over Yuki and Kyo very closely to ensure they do not do anything to Tohru. Hana herself doesn't approve of them because she senses "dark clouds around their heart", but she doesn't take action over it. Hana's personality is very calm and mysterious. She makes low grades, purposly or not, and has a younger brother: Megumi. (Megumi can put curses on people, if he knows there name.)
Arisa Uotani
Uotani is a former gang member that has been almost a life long friend of Tohru's. Uo had a close bond with Tohru's mom because they were both gang members, and Uo looked up to her. Uotani is not exactly the model anything. She skips class, loves teasing Kyo by calling him Kyon-Kyon and Carrot-top, and is always concerned about Tohru. As anime chicks carry around a giant mallet- Uo has a lead pipe handy, in case the Prince Yuki Fan Club decides to try something on Tohru.
