| ~Part Seven~ "I can't believe you put OUR hands up for this mission," Dom complained as they walked down the Malibu beach they were told to patrol. "C'mon you cant tell me that you aren't itching to get back out there" Kassie explained "Neither one of us has seen a wave let alone surfed one in the past few weeks" "It's not the point" Dom continued to complain "We have enough on our plates at the moment and we dont particularly need the added danger now do we" "Dont be such a big girl Dom. You want this thing gone just as much as I do, so the sooner we kill it the sooner we surf and move onto the next big ugly." "I'm not a big girl and it's not the big ugly's I was talking about. I was talking about you and I getting back to 'You and I' like we used to be before the whole puppy event" "I can't believe you are still going on about that," Kassie said with a sigh. "I thought we were over that" "No. You were hoping I was over that" Dom pointed out "In actual fact I seemed to have become more curious after you disappearing and then the whole "Drake" infatuation" he finished Kassie let out another sigh of exasperation or annoyance neither could tell which. "Alright I get the point once everything has settled down you and I get to spend some quality time. Ok?" "Ok" Dom agreed and smiled at her "I'm glad your agreeing with me on this, its like a miracle" "Can we say over reaction" Kassie laughed "It's all good though, I think it's about time I shared. Dont you?" "Lord you have given me a sign" Dom looked heaven ward "What are you babbling about Grom" "You darlin have finally opened up" he pulled her into a hug "She does love me" he looked skyward again. "Cut it out dude" she pushed him away "We have a job to do and this needs to be done fast." "Of course it does," Dom replied happily "I want to get back into the surf" "See I knew you were itching just as much as me" Kassie pushed at him. Dom replied with a shrug. They slowly approached the end of the beach, which was blocked by an outlet of rocks jutting out into the ocean. It seemed like a newly formed rock formation because it still looked unsettled and dangerous. "Hey, This is just new" Kassie remarked "I heard about this rock slip about a week ago, some kids were playing here. Luckily they didnt get hurt" "Did they say what caused it?" "No not really, they said maybe some kind of earthquake centred out in the ocean" Kassie replied unsure "Thats weird there was no record of seismic activity or any reports of it" Dom added "Perhaps it was our Sea Witch "playing" with the kids" "I hope not, maybe it was arguing with itself" "Well there's only one way to find out," Dom said as he started to ascend the debris. "Yeah and the sooner this is done then the sooner we can get to this party I heard about" Kassie followed. "You and your bloody party's" Dom complained "Dont you ever learn your lesson" "Hey, no complaints mate, that was an invite" "Oh well I wont complain then" Dom reached the top and looked down into what used to be a little grouping of rock pools. "Well what do we have here?" Kassie joined him at the summit and looked down into an entryway of sorts. The opening was blocked from the force of the ocean's waves but there was an obvious cave deep down into the formation. "Well this is it" Kassie said as she jumped down into the opening "It's now or never." "And lets hope one of those heads likes us" Dom added as he followed In their research the pair had found that the Sea hag had an unusual taste for things magical. Mostly to keep itself alive, it was said that she had taken the powers of all kinds of creatures good and evil, and though there was no proof of it eating people they weren't going to rule it out. Their had also been a lot of unexplained Dolphin deaths in the area which they were sure were the Sea Hag's doing. Dom led the pair down into the cavern careful of where he put his feet and making sure that Kassie stayed a few feet behind just in case there was some loose footing or some kind of booby trap. Kassie knew not to try and rush ahead of Dom in this kind of situation, of all the uses Dom had scouting and Recon were most useful, and she knew to let him do his thing. They rounded a corner and came to a medium sized cave about 4 feet taller than them and about 12 feet across, it didn't seem to have any other openings except this one but in the centre there was a pool of water, obviously ocean water. But if it was another exit they couldnt' tell but the pale blue green colour indicated that it was. Then there was a sudden gushing sound, and the water started to churn and became cloudy. "Shit something's coming!" Kassie panicked "Hide" she looked around the rock filled room. "Settle down" Dom cautioned he, "There he pointed to a little out let of rocks away from the inlet" They squatted out of site and waited for what ever it was to come out of the pool. They didn't have to wait very long, within second the sound got louder and soon settled and out of the water emerged the strangest looking 'female' creature they had ever seen. They used the term female loosely because it appeared to have female bits from the waist up, and even one head was pretty in its own freakish way, but the other head seemed very masculine in looks although still feminine. From the waist down it appeared to have a tentacle type legs but only four and not eight like an octopus and it seems to have no genitals at all and it only stood about 6 feet tall. "Thats the ugliest girl I've ever seen" Dom whispered "If it is a girl" "I hear ya Grom, but how the hell are we meant to kill it" Kassie asked. "Hey it's saying something" Dom pointed out and they watched on in interest. It was arguing with itself. The 'female' head was blaming the other for losing their lunch. "I'm hungry and you lost it we could have lived another 3 years on that" it wailed "You are over reacting and if I recall you were the one saying that your hair was getting messed up." (If thats what you could call the fuzzy bees nest on its head) "And it would have sustained us for about 3 weeks by the looks of the scrawny thing" The other let out a scream like a banshee. The other continued "The plan was to find the Indigo star to finally rid me of you" "Rid you of me more like the other way around" it responded venomously "After a thousand years we almost had it and it would finally be done." Dom and Kassie watched as the hag circled the pool and then collapsed only a few feet away from them. "What now?" Kassie whispered "And what the hell is the Indigo Star?" "I dont know? Why dont you ask." Dom replied sarcastically "I thought you knew me better than that" Kassie responded defiantly. Dom shook his head after he realised he had given her a challenge she would not turn down. And watched in disbelief as his partner stood up in full view of the sea witch and spoke up. "Excuse me" she asked getting its attention "Excuse me what's the Indigo Star?" It turned around and in astonishment and surprise, "Who are you?" too shocked to take a defensive stance. "And how did you get in here?" "Oh I'm Kassie and I climbed in through the cave" she replied honestly "but thats not fair you didnt answer my question, So what's the Indigo Star?" The two heads looked at each other and sensed that this girl had minimal magical talent, and wasnt worth the effort in trying to kill her. They also sensed that she had other talents that weren't any use to them and couldnt see how they were any use to her either. "Well little one" the 'girl' head responded "The Indigo Star is a special sea stone that will separate us forever" "Oh" Kassie responded "What were you chasing?" the 'male' head looked amused "We were chasing a sea sprite" he answered "They posses knowledge of the Star and know of all its protections" "Why would it need to be protected" Kassie continued asking like she was an idiot schoolgirl. "Just because there are some who should not get the star in there possession" he replied. "Oh." To the demon Kassie seemed to have run out of questions. "So little one" the female asked again "Why did you enter this cave" "I was exploring the beach" she answered innocently "I thought there might be something interesting in here" "And is there" they both asked with a smile. They could use this innocent girl she could be useful to them. They both looked at each other and grinned; it was a smile of pure malevolence. Kassie saw it and she knew that they had fallen for her innocent ploy. "Yeah interesting enough" she smiled back "What's a sea sprite look like?" she continued her questioning. They explained that most sea sprites conceal themselves and won't be seen but there are other more 'playful' types they take on the forms of dolphins. They were put on earth by the powers of goodness they said with a sneer, to protect and keep an eye on the earth's inhabitants. Dom stayed hidden behind the rock listening to this whole take on dolphins; and now he understood the unexplained deaths. He stayed where he was, hoping that Kassie had a plan. He was content in knowing they still had the element of surprise and that he was still concealed. "What would happen if something bad got the Indigo Star" Kassie asked hoping they thought she was too stupid to realise that they were something bad. "Well the thing would have eternal power and would become all powerful over the ocean," it smirked, Kassie could almost see it, the look of greed and desire for absolute power. "In the wrong hands it would be disaster for the world." Kassie almost laughed at the obvious desire to control the oceans absolutely. "Wow that would really suck" she said her sarcasm barely hidden. "Yes it would" the male head replied "Do you think you could help us?" it finished. "Maybe?" Kassie answered "But what could 'I' do? I mean I can't talk to Dolphins, and I dont know where the Star is" "No but you could help us get closer to the Sprite" the female head added "And then we would be able to ask the sprite." "Oh ok, so how am I going to do that" Kassie pretended to comply. The Witch went onto tell her that she just needed to go out into the water and begin 'to frolic as the sprites love to play' and then they would 'ask it' how they could get the Star. "Um ok well I dont think that THAT particular plan is going to work" she smiled with fake sweetness. In the time it had taken her to gain its confidence and for them to tell her all that they needed to know it now had its back to Dom and was confident that the 'little girl' was going to help them. "What ever do you mean" they looked at her and blinked innocently. "I mean," Kassie finished "that your plan isn't going to work" "And why not" they asked in joint confusion "Because this is the part were you die" Dom replied jumping over the rocks he was hiding behind, in a split second he threw Kassie her 'Bo' and swung at both heads with his sword leaving a gaping wound in both heads. Before it had time to let out a scream Kassie quickly caught her trusty staff spun it in her fingers and swung down on the female head, cracking its skull and killing it. Leaving the male head in agony and grief, it began to wail with pain and then again with loss as it realised that his companion was dead and it began to fight back. But with only one head he could not control his body and the dead weight of the other head made the effort more difficult. It lashed out swinging its tentacles missing Dom but taking Kassie completely off guard and throwing her into the pool. Dom raised his sword for the second time and with a cutting sweep decapitated the living head. Almost instantly it began to waste away and dry up, leaving the putrid smell of old flesh and sea salt. Dom walked over to the creature to get a closer look the head had turned into something that resembled an old fish head and the body looked like a huge squid. "A little help here" Kassie spluttered as she tried to get out of the pool "Sorry" Dom smiled and went to help his partner. "So you bloody should be lad, looking at that mess and leaving me here to drown," she said as she wrung out her clothes. "I said sorry" Dom replied "and anyway it's not like you can't swim" "Not the point" she answered indignantly. "So what do we do with that" she asked screwing her nose up at the smell. "We can leave it or dump it" Dom answered "I say leave it, there's enough pollution in the ocean as it is" "Good call my friend" Kassie replied "Some archaeologist is gonna find this one day I wonder what he's gonna say about it" "Who cares just as long as they dont find us here with it" Dom replied "Lets go" Just as they were about to leave they heard a splash in the pool behind them. When they looked they saw a dolphin staring at them, then it quickly turned and swam away. "Well that was probably the most satisfying mission yet" Kassie said as they emerged into the dying daylight. "How's that angel" Dom asked pulling her up onto the pile "Well, we got to know something about some of the weird shit in this world, and that the world does still have some good in it other than ourselves, and we got to see it" "Well you have a point there" Dom smiled "Lets go dont we have a party to get to?" |
