FRETWORK!
Fretwork is as old as the hills. Well, perhaps not quite that old ... but it's been around for a long, long time. The ancient Egyptians made items of it, as well as others from way back when, using hand saws.

Now days we have the advantage of electric scroll saws to speed things up a bit, but it still requires many patient hours to achieve smooth, even, accurate cuts. A lot of shop time went into the basket pictured at left, and all the rest of the items you see on this page.
I'm a newcomer to this ancient art. What you see here are some of my first pieces. For those who enjoy the thought of working with wood, I would recommend fretwork to the beginner. The initial outlay isn't terribly expensive compared to other woodworking, and the scrollsaw is quite user friendly.

And yes ... I crocheted the doily beneath the cross. It's made of sewing thread.
