THE WAY HOME

The way home was basically a mad dash for NY. We weren't really taking our time and enjoying the ride, but rather getting home in a timely fashion. Scott had to be back to school soon so we hauled ass home. Our route home took us through, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and part of Canada and then home to NY. I didn't take many pictures since we drove at night a lot as well, plus I was running out of film. To the left is Goatfolks taking a rest in Montana, while we eat lunch. I didn't get any pictures of Idaho as it was dusk as we entered the state, but it is a gorgeous state.

South Dakota was our next state so we decided to stop off at Mt. Rushmore. It is located in the Black Hills of SD, which is a wonderful place. Fir trees and rocky bluffs everywhere. Mt. Rushmore was pretty interesting, it would have been nice if the Crazy Horse monument was done, but at this point they were only starting it.

Seeing we were in South Dakota, we of course saw the billboards for Wall Drug. So if you're traveling through this state, you of course have to stop at Wall Drug, a famous tourist stop in the midwest. It was filled with your average tourist stuff, but we did have a good meal their.

Our last touristy stop was in Mitchell, South Dakota and the Corn Palace. I had seen it on MTV when the Road Rules stopped off there. They basically made fun of the place, so I had to stop and take it in for myself. Well, it basically is a building in the middle of town decorated completly with corn cobs and stalks to form a different design theme each year. as you can see the theme when we were there was "memories". What you see is basically it, inside is just a large open building with a history of the corn palace throughout the years, pretty exciting!

After the Cron Palace, we again headed east, bound for NY. Aside from a small layover being searched at the Canadian border, we made great time. Time was of the essence, so we traveled night and day, not stopping until we reached home. All in all it was a great trip and Goatfolks performed great. We couldn't ask for much more from a $50 dollar van. Below is a picture of Goatfolks resting comfortably in my driveway. It aquired quite a few stickers along the way as you can see. The farmer we bought it from couldn't beleive that it made it and seemed genuinely happy that we saved it and were able to go on the trip with it.

We kept Goatfolks around for while after the trip, and eventually sold Goatfolks to my parents who used it to haul this and that. Eventually rust got the better of Goatfolks and the passenger side rear leaf spring mount gave way and so she was retired. It eventually was sold to Jeff's father along with another Dodge van I had, which needed a motor. The engine was taken out of Goatfolks and placed in the other van. Goatfolks has basically returned to a field waiting for the next adventure....

Thanks for stopping by...hope you enjoyed the trip as much as we did.
