NEW MEXICO

The next state to roll into view was New Mexico. By this time it was getting progressively hotter, especially being August, so by the time we hit New Mexico, the air coming in our windows felt like it was coming out of an oven. I found New Mexico to be very desolate, towns were like an oasis with nothing for miles in between. As we were driving along one afternoon we drove through a huge thunderstorm, followed by clear blue skies. Out a side window we noticed the biggest rainbow we had ever seen. The picture to the left gives you an idea of just how big it was. I could only get about 1/4 of the rainbow in the shot, and when compared to Goatfolks, gives you an idea of just how big it was.

New Mexico had some really nice rest areas as shown to the right. Nice adobe looking buildings and shade trees made it a nice place to take a break and enjoy a meal cooked over our campstove.

We stopped for the night in Tucumcari, New Mexico, a town that still seems to be doing well. In Tucumcari is another very famous place, The Blue Swallow Motel. It was a cool place to see, each hotel room had its own private garage.

This is just a shot of the openness of New Mexico, you can just see for miles and miles. I thought this shot had an intersting cloud formation as well as the mountains in the background.
