History In the summer of 1990, during the devastation of Pinatubo volcano eruption in the Philippines four brothers and some SRB members from different chapters and friends who are living in Rome started to make a fund raising campaign for the contribution to our unlucky fellowmen victims on the said disaster area with the spirit of friendship the project was successfully generated. Before, in the night of October 20,1990 a meeting was called at the residence of Vergano family in Rome were presents Bernard Abano of Beta Beta chapter, Vicente Manaog of Omega, Freddie Landingin of Eta Nu, RolandoVergano of Gamma Omega and SRB members, the idea was to organize an alumni association and it was decided, on the same night Alpha Phi Omega Alumni Association of Italy was created followed by an election, Bro. Rolly had been elected to lead the Association and they started to monitored and searching if there is still some more members all over Italy. Every weekend the meeting and gathering was celebrated. In 1994 the result of membership still missing, the sixteen members were located in different cities of Rome, Milan,Aquila and Ancona only six of them are officially registered at the national council, meetings created difficulties to make a quorom and communication to each other. With the full support of Bro. Henry Bautista of Delta Iota chapter a travel and meetings to meet brothers and sisters in different cities had brought good result among us, the fellowship, service projects was continued and the anniversaries was celebrated. Many years of living in Italy a certain member finally make up his mind to continue the three cardinal Principles Leadership,Friendship and service,he is from beta chapter Danilo Laluna decided to held the 1st meeting in Bologna where he is residing with Ramon Castro of Xi, Rolito Panapanaan of Chi and the only sorority by that time Marivic Mendoza of Eta Theta. In regards to in continuing our traditions and the matter of assembling an alumni chapter here in Italy no one of them knew that there were other members were also forming an alumni association but the world was so small that they had encountered. From the transfer of Bro. Jessie from Rome who had been a resident thereof to Bologna led to another significant event as he have a knowledge of that there is already an existing alumni group were he had extended his membership, he follow a telephone call to the chairman reffered that he had meet a group of brothers and sister, then an immediate invitation was extended. On October 2000, a call of meeting in Bologna to brothers and sisters from Rome, Bologna, Milano,Ancona and Naples had been spread and eighteen(18) members of a successful meeting was attended a very warm reunion in the spirit of our beloved fraternity felt each other, so link and reorganization of Alpha Phi Omega Alumni Association of Italy was decided and continued in the leadership of Brother Rolly Vergano. |
