As always, this tournament was very competitive and fun for all three teams. GOA Reds 99 started out slow, but after the first day they were undefeated with three wins. GOA Reds 69 after tying their first game, came out strong and after the first day, had a record of 2 wins and a tie. The GOA Reds Women�s team also started off well, ending the day with two victories.
After dinner at Bennigan�s, shopping and Broadway Shows, we were all ready for the second day of competition. For the first time in GOA Reds� history, both the mens� teams as well as the women�s team made it to the semi-finals. The first team to play in a semi-final, GOA Reds 99, barely made it through winning in sudden death overtime 5-4 over the same team that gave them trouble last year. The women�s team was next and despite having many chances to score, they fell short losing to University of Maryland 2-1. Finally, in an exciting game, GOA Reds 69 stepped up as underdogs and beat the Mavericks. Dave Cox lead the way with a hat-trick along with Patrick Persuad's superb play, and Darren Demello stepped up to keep his team in the game. But there was no doubt that the spark off the bench provided by Conrad Fernandes, with his 'outdoor' tricks and techniques, lead the team to this victory!!
So the stage was set, GOA Reds 69 vs. GOA Reds 99. It was a typical Tuesday practice setting. The game was filled with lots of passing and excellent goals. In the end, GOA Reds 99 came out on top with a score of 7-3.
Congratulations go out to Roger D�Abreo for getting awarded the �MOST PROMISING JUNIOR PLAYER� and to Wayne Fernandes for getting MVP of the tournament.
But most importantly, congratulations to Gavin Francis for winning the �BLISTEX PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT�
