Welcome to my private oasis. We have all sorts of plants and trees on our 6 1/2 acre property, but I thought I'd showcase a few of the ones that are different to some. You can pause a pic- ture to view it, or click on it for a description of the plant.
Ma's porch
We live way down in the boonies in southern OH. We're three miles of a paved road in between two lovely state parks. There's lots of hills and caves around us. The nearest shopping center is twenty miles away. We don't have city water and so far... no towers for cell phones to work. There's no cable for the 'puter or tv. We get two channels, and one of them doesn't have good reception. This year we had twenty trees taken down that were near the house. They were blocking the reception from our satelite.
When I've finished my work and messed around with my 'puter... I go to "Ma's" porch and watch the squirrels, birds and occasional neighbors chickens, horses, hogs go by. Here I found two hogs! I got them to follow me with a bucket of corn to the old chicken cage. [the thought of Hannibal Lecter's scene with the pigs did cross my mind.] *giggle* The hogs ended up belong- ing to a neighbor who'd gotten them for a 4-h project for his girls.
We have a very large garage with a two car garage in the front, and a side garage where we store the tractor. This is converted to a party house at any given time. Behind and across a little creek, we have trails for horses and for all-terrain rides for the kids. On Halloween we have a bonfire and hayrides for the kids. Look what flew into our fire a couple of years ago. Yep! We have bats too. *giggle*
We have all the species of birds indigenous to this part of the country. Bluebirds, cardinals, phoebee's, chickadees, hummingbirds, blue jays, finches [gold and purple] robins, doves and woodpeckers etc. This includes the pileated woodpecker that's on the endangered list. They made a nest in an old tree on the other side of the creek. Here we have a phoebee nest, that was made on top of our security light on the garage. What a mess they made.
My neighbors took this picture of an owl that was trying to get through the window to their lovebird. They kept hearing a noise and grabbed their camera, and caught the culprit. Silly owl kept hitting the window. hee hee.
We never know who or what's coming next. Gotta love the country!
