Oru Thadiyanum Moonnu Elikalum (One Fat Man and Three Rats)

                                            Luckose P. S.

Thadiyan:
Conductor of ceremonies
Rat-1:
    A bald rat
Rat-2:
    No description available
Rat-3:
    A short rat

Venue - No description available
Time - 12:00 midnight on a fine Friday.

Thadiyan: It is time to propitiate the Goddess of  Travel.
Rats: Yes.

The group turns to the north, keeps the pole-star in view (or rather it would have been in view, had the walls of the room been absent) and begins.

Thadiyan: We devote the next two days for the noble cause of Wanderlust....
Rats: Yes.
Thadiyan (turning to Rat-2): How are we travelling?
Rat-2 (car-driver): By bus?
Rat-1: No! By car!

Minor altercation follows.

Rat-3 is occupied with finishing an Egg Sandwich.

Thadiyan quells the rebellion by sheer vocal power.

Thadiyan: Almighty Goddess of travel, grant us today the mental strength for encountering the unknown. Show us the right path so that we return safely. Mislead us only if the wrong path is beautiful. Let the paths abound with birds, so that we can make a decent bird-list. Let there be lots of butterflies and wild-flowers around so that we can take some good snaps. Let it rain, but only after we get enough time to pack the cameras. And above all, let there be enough food so that we don't suffer pangs of hunger.
Rats: Amen.
Thadiyan: Are the equipment ready and packed? Cameras? Lenses? Filters? Bird / butterfly books? Binocs? FOOD? FOOD? FOOD?

All the involved parties (except Rat-3) inspect the food supplies and give approval. The stuff are neatly packed.

At this point Rat-1 gets a doubt whether his "normal" lens is packed. One by one each rucksack is unpacked and re-packed. Finally the third rucksack yields the lens and everything is packed again.

Time - 2:00 am on a fine Saturday.

The gang leaves the room with the dual purpose of disturbing people and looting their rooms. Thadiyan and the three rats barge into the lair of an Old Fox sleeping peacefully. Rat-1 immediately starts rummaging in the cup-board and comes up with 2 rolls of film, one polarizer and a small binocs. The Old Fox is dazed by the mid-night rat attack (not to mention a thadiyan). The gang leaves with their spoils leaving the Old Fox gasping for breath.

Time - 5:00 am on a fine Saturday.

After a minor starting trouble, the gang is ready for departure. The gang is silent - is this silence because of the gravity of the occasion or is it because the warm bed is beckoning the gang?

And another trip begins.

[End.]
