June 2004 A Letter from the GNO-ARMA President Wow!! If you missed our meeting last night I am so very sorry. We had a lot of fun!! The room that Melanie Gonzales reserved for us at the Treasure Chest Casino was beautiful and had an awesome, eye level view of Lake Ponchatrain. In addition, the buffet was extraordinary. You should have seen us at the dessert bars. Well, you have a brand new/old Board. I am still President, Rob is VP again, Sheila is Sec.,and Barbara is Treasurer again. We added Danielle Honor as a new Board Member and Gaylane Bonck and Melanie Gonzales are Board Members again for this coming year. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! Our chapter needs to submit for the COTY award next year, and we need you to volunteer to help out on the different committee’s. Come on guys—it takes a whole “village” to make an organization successful. Don’t’ you want to help those in the world of records management have an outlet for education and networking? MARK THIS DATE IN YOUR CALENDAR: AUGUST 5, 2004 CHAPTER PLANNING MEETING—NEW ORLEANS CITY CLUB AT 5:00 PM—FREE WINE AND HOR D ORVES. We have several volunteer programs already in the fire. On months that we do not hold general meetings we plan to organize personnel to work on projects for the Orleans Parish Archives and for St. Marks. We NEED your skills. Danielle Honor and myself will be attending the regional leadership conference in Midland Texas July 21-24. We hope to have lots of fresh ideas to make our chapter more successful in the coming year. We have voted to donate $ 500.00 to help sponsor a Records Manager from Botswana (do YOU know where that is?) to attend the International ARMA conference in California. We are still trying to help him raise more money, as it is extremely expensive getting here from A-----. We also voted to donate $ 100.00 to the Arc Angel fund. We will present this check at the leadership conference. At our meeting last night we played a game that allowed us to get to know each other better. Did you know that Dr. Charles Nolan has been a member of ARMA for 25 years and that Julia Vercher has been a member for 20? Gaylane Bonck came in 3rd having been a member for 15. Can anybody top this? Speaking of Julia, she looks great and seems to be feeling well!! We met Barbara Jacob’s new husband Ned, and he is a hoot. Guess what else? Libby Smith is getting married on Oct. 16 and moving to Pineville, La. with her new husband Corky Yates. We will miss her. In addition, I got an e-mail from Monica Chauvin and apparently she is no longer employed with T. Baker Smith and Sons. She is home with the kids and says hello to you all.
