July 23, 2003 Re: A letter from the GNO-ARMA President Dear GNO-ARMA Chapter Members: Ola!! Are you enjoying this heat? How 'bout them floods? It has been a pretty miserable summer, weather wise, but look out-before you know it- it will be fall!! In the fall we have so many wonderful meetings to look forward to. In August we will have member presentations. Five minutes each to discuss a project that we are working on and how it has worked or maybe did NOT work out as planned. I have one I want to discuss that did NOT work out so well recently. In Sept. we have a speaker lined up to inform us as to the wonderful treasure Tulane University has in archives. Please be there, as I know you will enjoy this presentation. On October our chapter will host our annual bosses luncheon. Gaylane has engaged a speaker from the International chapter to present to us. Wonderful door prizes (hint Charlie G's gift certificates and more)!!! Remember, what we do is important and this is the opportunity to show off to your boss the value of our membership. OCTOBER INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE---ARE YOU GOING TO BOSTON? November-Dr. Chuck Nolan has so graciously offered to have us tour the archives of the Catholic Diocese. Dr. Nolan is so very knowledgeable about archiving and in addition he is writing a NEW BOOK!!! I'll let him tell you all about it-IF you're there!! Do not miss this meeting!! We have some great food and wines planned and this will be a lot of fun!!! Many thanks to Jennifer Berniard, Gaylane Bonck, Melanie Gonzales, and Rob Perry for the contribution that they each made to the informal chapter planning meeting we held at my New Orleans home in July. We had a wonderful time, and we got a lot done. We were informed that Sue Vogel couldn't serve on the board any longer (overload at work), so we voted for Jennifer Berniard to take her place. Jen has been a valuable asset to our chapter as WEB master; not an easy job as Monica Chauvin can attest to. In addition, the board presented a plaque to Rob Perry in appreciation of his service to our chapter as President 2001-2003. Speaking of Monica. She is alive and well and says hello to all. She and the babies are fine, and you can see little Kaden's picture on our web site. Thanks also to Jennifer Berniard who will be representing our chapter at the leadership conference in Albuquerque, N.Mex. this coming weekend. I'm sure that she will have many interesting things to report upon her return. Considering the busy week we at AIS have put her through I'm sure she will be happy to be out of my sight for a while :). SPEAKING OF PRIZES-your board has approved a contest with a very nice prize donated by Advanced Imaging Solutions, Inc. You must see the attached document to learn what it is that you could win for bringing in the most new members to our chapter. (Think beach). Rob Perry had a wonderful idea at our meeting to make the City of New Orleans Archives our chapter charity in lieu of Travelers Aid. The board has approved this, and I am happy that our chapter will be doing something to help archive our own history here in the city of New Orleans. August meeting---BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!!!! Good luck with the contest!!!! Sincerely, Kathryn Smith, CDIA
