August 22, 2003 Re: A letter from the GNO-ARMA President Well as usual the summer has flown by. I did get to go hang out on the beach for a week this month. After spending the first five days cooking and cleaning for my Mother, my sister, and my children I got to spend the last 3 alone---reading books in the sand. I read two excellent books that I would recommend to you. For self I read "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis and for "fluff" I read " The King of Torts" by John Grisham. NOTICE: SEPTEMBER 17th MEETING IS BEING MOVED TO ANOTHER LOCATION!!!! Charlie G's informed Melanie Gonzales that they are closing at the end of August for renovations. Melanie will update you soon. She is talking with Andrea's. NOTICE: ARMA International is hosting a web seminar on Thursday August 28 at 1:00 on the topic of Researching Retention References-the Easy Way. Thank you also to Gaylane Bonck for donating the door prize for this months meeting. Rob Perry was the winner. You missed out on a lot of fun if you did not attend this month's meeting. We played a game that helped us learn more about one another as well as shared information about records management projects that we currently are working on. Did you know that Sheila Hymel knows how to play the clarinet AND owns a rabbit? Jennifer, Libby, and Melanie all live in houses that are more than 90 years old, and Danielle has brewed her own wine!! Fun!! We have an awesome group of members. Jennifer Berniard presented details on the trip she took to the ARMA Leadership Conference in Albuquerque, NM. Jennifer then presented Rob Perry with a certificate from ARMA International honoring him for being the GNO-ARMA chapter President 2002-2003. As an aside, it was noted that under the tenure of Rob Perry as President the GNO-ARMA chapter gained over a thousand dollars in additional funds over the past year. Thank you Rob!!! Don't miss our upcoming meetings!!! Have you invited your boss to attend the annual Bosses luncheon on Oct. 15? Susan Avery of ARMA International is our guest speaker. This is an opportunity for you to show your boss how important your ARMA membership is to the company. Mark you calendar for the upcoming Nov. 19th meeting at the Old Ursuline Convent. WILL YOU BE THE ONE TO WIN THE TRIP TO THE BEACH NEXT SPRING? GET ON THE PHONE AND INVITE YOUR BUSINESS FRIENDS TO JOIN US FOR OUR MONTHLY MEETINGS!!!! See you soon, I hope. Kathryn Smith, CDIA
