May 2004 A letter from the GNO-ARMA President Dear Chapter Members: The Spring Conference was a great success. Our speaker, Mr. Kevin Troutman of Baldwin Haspell, L.L.C. gave a wonderful speech on e-mail concerns in the workplace. We awarded The Port of New Orleans a plaque for supporting our efforts during National Records and Information Management month, and additionally we ate a very nice lunch on the pavilion overlooking the river. Thank you again Pam Couste and Melanie Gonzales for your help with the conference. Please plan to attend the May meeting to cast your vote for members of next year’s board. If you want to run for the board please contact Rob Perry or me as soon as possible. Officers will be elected at our next general meeting on May 19. FYI-If you are in a records management position or you KNOW someone in a records management position that also has managerial skills and would be interested in knowing about an executive position open here in the New Orleans area please contact Mr. Bill Summers at 1-866-548-1499. Your Board has voted to change an article in our by-laws so that we can have more flexibility in planning our chapter year. What we have adopted is a plan to hold meetings during the time of year that we know we have more access to speakers and more people free to attend. Beginning in July 2004 your meeting schedule will be as follows: July—NO general meeting August-NO Meeting September-Meeting October-Bosses Luncheon November-Meeting December- NO Meeting January-Meeting February-NO Meeting March-Meeting/ Nomination of Officers April-Spring Conference/ Election Of Officers May-Meeting/ Installation of Officers We hope that you can understand that we simply eliminated those times of the year when everyone is either on vacation or busy with other events. Traditionally we have had a very low turnout for the June installation of officers meeting. This year we are trying to hold the installation some place fun---more information to follow, but MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW!! As usual I am reading a great new book and want to share it with you. “Spin Sisters-How the Women of the Media Sell Unhappiness and Liberalism to the Women of America” by Myrna Blyth. Ms. Blyth was the editor for Ladies Home Journal for over 19 years and writes on her personal experiences and knowledge of Women in the media USING the media to perpetuate their own political views. It is full of incident after incident by our favorite media Queens. Katie, Diane, Leslie, Barbara, you know them all. Please remember Julia Vercher in your prayers. God Bless you all, Kathryn Smith, CDIA
