Mama gave birth to two of us girls Neither truly had many curls Those nasty perms would just make me faint She taught us well, no problems we ain't! (lol) Now truly she wanted more children of her own Yet, she taught Kindergarten, and those kids are full grown Back then prayer was in every school I still can remember Mama breaking the rule

Now prayer was taken away from school, she didn't understand My Mother was stubborn, walking in to school with Bible in hand She wouldn't say a prayer, she'd read from the Bible instead She never could quite understand them in her fancy head Mother was strict, and taught us well Yet, still we girls and grandsons could put her thru hell Her laughter still rings in my ears to this day Just one certain look she'd give and we were on our way

Yes, Mother taught me to pray I think that's why I do it each and every day Mother's in Heaven, on her cloud she will wait She knows that we're all meeting her at the Eastern Gate She's probably a teacher up there in the Golden School Teaching the children about love, and kindness and every rule I'm sure she won't break them, cause she'll see her Daddy's eye One look from him would cause Satan to cry

I love you Mama, as you still live in my heart I still try to stay kind, and doing my part I hear you say, Alice, put on your shoes Well, Mama, I still don't, sorry about the blues Although God took you home, I know you see your family Now I have God and His Angels watching over me So Happy Mother's Day, Mama, that's what I'd call you when we were alone Nobody knew it, but that's ok, cause someday you know I'll come home
