| CURRENT EVENTS PROJECT Purpose: To provide information to the class about a recent news event in science. The topic can be related to any of the various chapters found in Biology. Procedure: Starting in the second marking period each student will be required to research and present a total of two current event news articles between the second and fourth marking period. Each student will be assigned a letter or number and once every two weeks presentations will be given to the class. What to Include: (this will be typed using MLA format) 1. Original article and source (what newspaper, website, the date, etc) 2. A brief summary (synopsis) of the article. 3. How does this article relate to Biology? What chapter(s) or topic does it correspond with? 4. Why did you pick it? (what made it appeal to you?) 5. Did you think the article was well-written? Why or why not? 6. If you were writing the article, what might you have done differently? What will you hand in: All of the above typed neatly in paragraph form. Handwritten copies will not be accepted nor will articles from the current day. Your work should show thoughtfulness and be more than one paragraph. Topics may not be repeated by other students once they have been presented, we want variety. Current event presentations may appear on upcoming quizzes or tests so please pay attention to presentations when they are given. I have included links to online news sources. All of these sites have a "science" section for you to click on. |
