Classification Project
CLASSIFICATION PROJECT
Biology 1 and Honors

PURPOSE:  To design a project that clearly classifies an organism according to the seven classification groups.  Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, species.

PROCEDURE:  Students may work individually or in groups of two.  Students must find an inanimate object that represents a known living thing (beanie baby, rubber animals, plastic flowers, plants, etc).  The organism chosen will then be classified using research books as a guide.  Each organism must include its correct K, P, C, O, F, G, and S on an index card.  You must also construct a home for your organism ex: shadow box or Diorama (no posters!!).  The classification card must be mounted on the shadowbox and be clearly visible.  The finished project should resemble a museum display, constructed to educate the viewer.
The final part of this project is to include at least a 2 page typed paper, honors at least 3 pages, about the history, origin, behavior, feeding habits and habitat of the organism you chose.  Try to include why or how it got its Genus and species name.  A short presentation of your project will also be expected.  Try to keep projects about the size of a normal shoebox.

DUE DATE:  All projects are due on ___________________  NO EXCEPTIONS
                                                         OTHER THAN SEVERE ILLNESS!!!!!!!!!!!

Any other questions please see me at your nearest convenience.  Just a hint, Animals make a more interesting project, extinct animals are OK.  Examples given in the book will not be accepted!!!
