Description:
Granite-jawed, well over six and a half feet, and over 260 pounds, the man known as Jean “The Machine” Calais is an imposing figure. He's broad-shouldered and well-muscled without being bulky or bullish – clothest still fit well on him.

Jean tends to jeans and snake-skin boots, and dark pullover shirts. His favorite jacket is a black waist-length leather sports jacket.

Jean had short, dark reddish-brown hair underneath and a pair of jade-green eyes which he often covers with stylish dark shades.

Story:
Born to the Lodge's Bear clan in Europe, Jean had little desire to deal with the inner workings of the Ascended and opted to avoid most of their doings – the occasionaly contact with his Clan has been fraught with tension and accusations – his parents were keenly disapointed in him.

Thinking to escape, Jean joined the French military and got involved in some truly dismal police actions in central and east Africa – though he ended up being relieved upon his discharge, he did come away with a love for the martial arts that were a part of his blood. Although he had no one among the Ascended who would teach him much about his Bear heritage, he was determined and has managed to discover much of his inner potential on his own.

As time went on, Jean became a premier and well-known martial artist in the full-contact martial arts culture. He won the 1993 Champonship King of Iron contest, but in '94 when he returned to defend his title he killed his opponenet by accident with a sudden kick. The media went on a witch hunt – though he never faced criminal charges, his career was washed up. In actuality, Jean did not kill his opponent – the Lodge, believing he was drawing too much attention to his Bear talents fixed the death of his opponent up through a lethal pre-fight injection and made sure that Jean would never fight again in a public circuit.

By 1995 Jean, low on cash and friends – and took a job in Hong Kong as a cabbie, just to make ends meet. He also knows that his Lodge brethren are less likely to keep tabs directly on him here in Hong Kong, due to the Territory's increased magical environment – something he's not particularly bothered by himself. Jean's a bit unguided...he still acts and thinks like a warrior, but he has no true goals...yet.
