GMO Sweeps Richardson Yet Again!!
BACK TO RECAPS
LA PLATA, Maryland (AP) In what is almost becoming "old hat", GMO came away with 2 wins after another night of ball against Richardson Construction.  Each season, Richardson seems to show up with more and more new faces, yet the outcome is always the same.  But this was a more a gut-check for GMO as it was anything else.  With the teams in the league being much stronger this season, many have put GMO on the outside looking in.  Martini's has quickly become the team to beat, and everyone knows the road to the championship goes thru Scuttle Butt.  So why the lack of respect for GMO?  Well, you can't argue with results, they have been one of the top teams in the league for several seasons now.  But maybe with the "what have you done for me lately" concept, most can only remember what they did in the Early Bird tourney.  Nonetheless, most teams show up to play GMO now with the thought that they can be beat.

So, last night, GMO had to show that they could still handle the teams they should beat.  Coming off an impressive sweep of Alexander's Tree Service, Richardson showed up to the complex with a bit of a swagger about them.  They had this very confident look on their face and looked to show GMO that their reign is officially over.  Well, GMO opened game 1 as the visitors and quickly put Richardson on the defensive as they hit two 3-run homers in the first frame and batted around the lineup.  "When a team comes to bat in the first inning down 7-0, you really have the upper hand since they immediately begin to press to try and stay in the game", said Coach Craig.  But that upper hand was quickly swatted away as Richardson put up 5 of their own in the first inning as Craig walked one in with the bases loaded and the next batter cleared the bases with a grand slam.  But GMO's bats stayed lively, as they continued to keep the runs piling up, forcing Richardson to stay with them.  Darrin Edelen led the way in game one going 5 for 5, coming up a HR shy of the cycle.  And Josh Kennedy followed up going 4 for 5 with 3 doubles.  "Tonight we saw the re-emergence of Josh in the 2-hole", said Craig.  "He came out swinging the bat well and was looking at second from the minute he stepped out of the batters box.  That is when we are dangerous", Craig added.  Dangerous they were as GMO took game one 19-15.  Besides a few errors in the last inning which allowed Richardson to get within sniffing distance, GMO kept the pressure on most of the game with Richardson failing to keep up.

Game two started out a bit different as what was a scoring fest early in the night, became a pitchers duel in the second contest.  With the score being 1-0 after a few innings, GMO finally opened it up with some timely hitting and got Richardson into another hole and took game two in five innings 10-0.  Lee Bowles and Scott Moran led the way for GMO in game two, both going 3 for 3.  "GMO definitely sent a message tonight to the doubters that they can still play and will be tough to beat", said an anonymous onlooker.  Whether that's true or not remains to be seen, but what is for sure is that the much anticipated match up between Martini's and GMO is only 3 short weeks away!
