| Abel, and Olivia, are young Indian children. Along with their family, they have been a part of our ministry since we began our mountain work. For the last two years, we have been trying to encourage them to go to school. Illiteracy among the Indian people is a serious problem. Neither of their parents can read or write. We have been suggesting and encouraging, explaining over and over, how important an education can be. Finally, their mother decided that they should go, and they began attending school this year. We are really happy for them. These children are as poor as any you will find in a third world country. They live in a small shack, barely fit for animals, and often battle malnutrition. We consistently help them with subsistence foods like rice and beans, as we can. If you would like to get involved, FAMINE RELIEF is becoming a vital part of helping our people. This morning, their care packages contained tooth brushes, paste, and soap, as well as other useful and fun items. We were also able to help them with a few clothing items. Abel, doesn't have a change of clothes, and we are on the look out for pants, shirts and shoes for him. With winter mountain temperatures beginning to set in, these will become increasingly more important needs. | |||||||||||||||
