FLEETWOOD MAC 101
Lesson Eleven: Shocking the World
In 1997, Fleetwood Mac released a documentary reflecting on
“Rumours,” 20 years after recording it.
It was a good look back at how tough that album was to make,
reexamining the heartache and devastation that actually produced one of the
greatest albums in American history.
Ten years had also passed since Lindsey walked out before
the “Tango In The Night” tour.
There were stirrings about getting the old band back
together.
There was a lot of doubt surrounding a possible reunion.
And if they did decide to reunite, could they still have
what it takes to put out a good
album, twenty years
after their greatest success??
Were they out of touch, washed up? Would anyone want to hear them anymore??
In August of 1997, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood,
Christine & John McVie, and Stevie Nicks went to
Los Angeles.
They performed live in front of an audience and MTV
cameras.
In two days, they had made another album!!!!!
They had shocked the world with one of the best live albums
in history!!!
FLEETWOOD
MAC WAS BACK!!!!
“The Dance” was a smashing success, it shot to Number One
on the Billboard Charts!!!
To this day many say that it is the finest live album ever
recorded.
It contained an awesome lineup of some of the Mac’s greatest
songs.
It even yielded some new songs, and the release of Silver Springs, twenty years after it
was originally recorded!!
The band hadn’t missed a step; they were back and better
than ever!!!
Who'd have believed it possible?!!!!
The band embarked on a three month sold out world tour!
The tour was a huge draw every
city it went to.
Fleetwood Mac was
back on top, almost 25 years after they released their first album
together.
In 1998, Fleetwood Mac was inducted in to the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame!
What would the following years bring for the legendary
band?
They had truly made one of the greatest reunions of all time, they came back and went to Number 1.
But could they go into the next century and still prove to
the world they had staying power?
Could they come back with new material? Would the band stay together, or was this
their last hurrah?
Check back for Lesson 12!
