| D Lessons Our lives hold no promises, no guarantees, We all have a challenge and that includes me. My challenge lies hidden, just under my skin, But each day it reminds me, again and again. Lying quiet and silent; its not easy to see, But it rages inside me with such complexities. It waits for a chance to attack and destroy, Its a hard thing to battle for a 10-year old boy. It takes work and dedication so I dont feel bad, Some times I get scared, some times I get mad. I have medicines and technology, for this I am glad, But the best things I have are my mom and my dad. My mom vowed to guard me, to help me survive, This D would not take me while she was alive. She cleared all her plans for the rest of my days, D picked the wrong fight; mom stands in its way. Mom did all she could to make my life right, I couldnt have done it without her help to fight. And when I stopped trying and wanted to flee, She was there to take over and battle for me. Looking back I remember everything she has done, She prepared me to deal with my D, one-on-one. She gave me the strength to find my own way, Its because of moms love that Im healthy today. My life is a blessing despite having D, Its a lifetime of learning thats worked well for me. The things I have learned and the battles Ive won, Are because of my parents and their love for their son. Gary 2001 |
