Ocean Colour Scene
Support: Proud Mary
Venue: Crawley Leisure Centre
Date: 19/02/02
When I heard Ocean colour Scene were playing at my local leisure centre I thought I might as well go even though I don't own a single CD of theirs. I had heard quite quite a few songs of theirs thanks to music channels and so on.
We got to the leisure centre two hours early as a effort to try and get to the front which in the end we did. The venue was quite small compared to the ones I had been to originally and not that many people had turned up.
Proud Mary were the support band and sounded a bit like Oasis which didn't surprize me as their first album was produced by Noel Gallager. They were good for a support band but all thier songs sounded the same which was annoying as the set didn't really change at all.
OCS came on 45 minutes later and the crowd woke up a bit as they had been reletively silent through Proud Mary's set. The band worked their way through a brilliant set playing songs like 'Day We Caught The Train' which got the crowd moving. 'July' was the highlight as the guitar riff is the best one they have ever done.
The band were really enegetic, the bass player jumped around the stage and they talked to the audience quite freely. It is definatly a gig I will never forget.
