Supergrass
Support: Bobby Conn
Date: 28/6/02
Venue: Royal Festival Hall
As usual we met the band, well Danny, Mick and Rob before we entered the venue. The venue was probably the strangest place I've been to seen a band before it was a very big public building with two cafes, a couple of shops and live band playing constently.
After a while of checking out the band downstairs we took our seats and waited for Bobby Conn to make a apperence. While we were waiting I realised how bad the set out was for this very posh venue. I was seated on the balcany which didn't allow any interaction with the band what so ever. The only decent seats were the first 5 or 6 rows and if you took a seat any furthur back you were miles from the band.
As soon as Bobby Conn came on there was a cheer from the crowd and the band got on with making a very weird display of their music style. Dressed in red trousers and white blazers they went through a set which was different but at the same time highly irritating as the songs had no real tune to them. I ended up watching the time go by waiting for them to end, only being amused by the brilliant lighting which is rather sad really.
After 15 minutes, the shortest time I have ever waited to see a headlining act. The boys came on looking rather relaxed even though this was to be the first proper gig they had done this year. They went straight in to a new song called Za which sounded great and a protential for a single. Most the set consisted of new songs but a few older grass songs made a aperance such as Caught By the Fuzz, Pumping, Moving, Lose It and Mary. The overall atmosphere of the gig was great even though it was all seating, and at one point someone sat behind us made their way on stage which the band enjoyed. They put on a great show and it was worth the wait of many months to see them, one of the best gigs I've been to by far.
