| The plan for this interview was to go to Reading University where Reuben would be playing a support slot for Hell Is For Heroes. After traveling 2 hours plus two train changes I managed to make it to the venue and sort out everything I needed for the interview, the only problem was finding the band. Thankfully after catching Justin (leadsinger of HIFH) he went to get them for me, after 2 minutes he appeared with the band and I was face to face with the three band members. After calling me a loser and having a discussion on bad quality dictaphones this conversation followed: What do you want to achieve with the band? JON: 2 in the back, 3 in the boot, bitches in the front, bitches in the back. We want gold teeth and white coats like furry.. JAMIE: Yeah like lab coats JON: Like Mark Morrison used to wear. JAMIE: Actually though if we do end up working with a really coshie job in a laboratory theyd be quite good at the end of all this and we dont end up as bin men that would be quite good, so white coats either way. JON: Yeah What advise would you give to new bands starting out? JAMIE: Dont play covers, go to university. If aliens came to earth and asked you if you wanted to see the universe but you werent allowed to return to earth would you go? JON: Shit yeah, how boring is this? JAMIE: Yeah, been here for quite a while. JON: It just all looks the same, the aliens take us away, we say yes. JAMIE: Maybe itd be a planet where we would be successful. JON: Where no one was there. JAMIE: Yeah, just us. The video for STUX was pretty good, what was it like making it? JAMIE: Tense, very fast. JON: Very tiring. ME: How long was it? JAMIE: The whole day. JON: Well it wasnt very long, I had to start work at 6 in the morning that day and I finished work at 10, drove my little fiesta straight to the house, acted, got pizza for the crew and everyone and then got to go home at 4. JAMIE: high pitched yell Wicked. JON: Guy, what do you think about the video? GUY: (silence) Where did the name Reuben come from? JAMIE: My first ever friend. Do you like Brazilian motor racing drivers? JON: (high pitched voice) Reuben Barocella. JAMIE: err no we dont. JON: Sorry JAMIE: Guy does. JON: I dont like Brazilian motor racing driving. Im pretty sure its the same as any other motor racing. What bands would you say have most influenced the way you sound? JAMIE: The way we sound! JON: Thats good, normally people go (puts on monotone voice) what band influenced you? JAMIE: Johnny Marr influenced me to get out of bed this morning coz I had to go and turn off the stereo but err musically whos influenced us? JON: Youve got your classics, you got your Nirvana and your Brian Adams and Helmet. JAMIE: Ive got a cold from standing outside a Hell Is For Heroes gig we were doing and thats why I sound like Ozzy Osbourne, so theyve influenced the way I sound. JON: The Osbournes? JAMIE: No, Hell Is For Heroes. GUY: Sarcastic laugh Do you think the UK or the US market has more to offer in terms of rock? JAMIE: US (America) JON: Us (UK) JAMIE: Yeah JON: Well the UKs pretty thriving at the moment, look at that Bob Williams goes in at number 4. JAMIE: It is yeah, its nice to see the failure of some pop acts. JON: Theres nothing with big bands like Hundred Reasons going in high this year. JAMIE: But thats rubbish you can earn a living, well its not rubbish, what you said wasnt rubbish but what I mean is you cant earn a living touring in the UK but you can earn a living touring in the US , so theres something to be said there. JON: Coz its so big. ME: You get bigger tour busses in the US. JAMIE: Yeah JON: Were still going round in our little transit so dont be downing the transit. |
