Elijah and his brothers Burell and Willliam left North Carolina sometime after the end of the Revolution and moved to Oconee County, South Carolina. Based on the following deed records, they must have settled on Coneross Creek.
Burell Deaton, Elijah's brother had gotten a land grant in South Carolina
sometime before 1804.
In 1804, Burrell sold 105 acres on Coneross Creek acres to their brother
William Deaton.
In 1809, Elijah, who was then 28, witnessed William sell 100 of these acres to a William Watson. Afterwards, William Deaton apparently moved to Hall County Georgia, where he died in in 1844.
Elijah probably married Elizabeth Dossett in 1811 in Oconee County.
Elijah is buried in the East View Cemetery in Westminister, SC
