The Ladwig Home located in Sumner, Iowa where Ferd and Maggie retired from the farm life.  Maggie lived there until her death in 1944.
"Maggie" Ladwig in her later years, about 1935, with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Albert ( Daisy Catherine Robertson) Ladwig.
Photos from Jim Ladwig and the files of Daisy Ladwig.
Four members of  the family of J. F. F. "Ferd" Ladwig left their Iowa home in search of new homes in Montana.

They were brothers George Ladwig, Elwin Ladwig, Harrison Ladwig and sister, Ella Ladwig; together with the sons of George, Lavaerne and Elmore. .

The photo to Left was taken in Intake, Montana in 1911 and sent back to relatives in Iowa.  Included in the photo are Mrs. "Ferd" Ladwig and George's daughter, Lucille, who were visiting at the homesteads.
Montana State homestead records indicate that all four siblings, including Ella,  applied for adjacent homesteads

The story I remember is that they built the one house, with lots of connecting rooms on the "Four Corners" spot of all the homesteads.

AZ, UT, NM. and CO have nothing on these Ladwigs!.

Harold Ladwig is playing with a toy wooden tractor combine that was carved by the prior residents and given to him

This wooden toy was located in one of those "treasure boxes" and is now a permanent part of the displays at the Historical Museum in Paynesville, Stearns County, MN; accompanied by the photo of Harold with his toy
