Synopsis:
This book is called, Blood on the Empire." It is a wonderful story set in the delightful tropical islands of the Bahamas. It encompasses memorable scenes from several of our most popular islands, namely, Nassau, Grand Bahama and Eleuthera.
The story begins with two of our colourfully dressed
policemen on an evening
patrol through the city of Nassau. They encounter a number of characters and
natural situations you will likely meet in the city of Nassau. Colourful street
celebrations and festivals. The introduction to the lovely tourist areas in
downtown Nassau and other memorable areas of the city of Nassau. Its a great
tour of the city. Next the
action goes to the island of Grand Bahama where the main culprits in the
plot prepare and carry out several assigned drug hits on some of their drug
contacts on that island. Ironically according to the story both the policemen
and the drug hit men meet on the island of Eleuthera where a set of
unfortunate incidents carried out by the unfortunate bully Harcourt gets
into much trouble with the police officer who as a promise paid to his
securing drug under lord in Nassau. He shoots to death the main character
Harcourt and tries as best he could to hide under the disguise of the law,
saying that the large man Harcourt attempted to attack his police group
with a machete. His story is met with controversy. A number of instances
occur where the community rises up in defence of the slain Harcourt where
they gather to riot against the police force. An inquiry into the death of
the slain Harcourt ensues in the end and the crooked policeman is brought
to justice by the jury and the trial lawyer introduced into the plot of the
story. Also introduced into the plot is the charismatic character Slick who
is a typical drug enriched dealer living a drug rich, flaunting Caribbean
life style and owes his full character and actions to the culture of the
Caribbean drug trade.
This book will appeal to those who love the Caribbean and the Bahamas
especially. It is a wonderfully crafted story, which includes many of the
contemporary issues occurring in both the Bahamas and the Caribbean. The drug
trade is prevalent here and is now an engrained part of the society where
especially young men become involved in the drug life style. These
unfortunate circumstances are the back drop for the murder mystery
story, Blood on the empire." As the entire western hemisphere wrestles
with
a solution to the current drug problems in the region it is the story of the
drug trade itself in the islands which produce a certain strain of
misfortunate characters and life styles. I am here to tell those stories in
the best production that I can. I wish to get some of these stories out and
in a story form allow the world to speculate on these circumstances.
Blood on the Empire is a murder mystery, perhaps new to the genre but
relevant to current conditions never the less.
