Hello All,
Well a bunch has happened since I last wrote. This has been a great year for family visiting us. First you may remember my Dad and Grandma were here. Then in late August or early September (my memory is going) Loreleis cousin Donna came for a visit. What fun we had! We went fishing, we cooked outside (Donna showed us boys how to make gravy over a campfire), Lorelei and Donna went shopping and toured the county looking at Real Estate. The next weekend after Donna left, my oldest son Glynn Michael, his wife Amy and their son Dannen came for a visit. Wow what a good time. We took the boat out on the river and had a blast. We fished and pulled GM and Adam on the knee board. Dannen and Cody played in the river. After a fun day on the water we went to the local buffet, all you can eat place and the older boys; Jon, Adam and Glynn M. decide to have an eating contest. What a riot! We were seated back in the banquet room reserved for parties (there was no room for all eight of us in the main dining hall). The bus people were hauling out empty plates by the armload. The manager finally asked one of the employees what was going on back in the banquet room and they told him we were having an eating contest. Well apparently the manager is somewhat of an expert on eating contests, so he stops in to give the boys some pointers. Lorelei and Amy were sure someone was going to barf. First the boys had a salad plate that was carefully monitored by judge Amy to ensure all plates held the same amount of food. Then came a main dish plate, then a pizza plate then fruit plates. About this time Jon decided he had had enough and dropped out. This is where GMs strategy came into play. The next plate after the fruit plate was to be the dessert plate. But as Adam and GM are finishing up the fruit plate, GM announces, One more pizza plateAdam was totally unprepared mentally. Adam was thinking dessert and now he had to go back to pizza! Part way through the next pizza plate, Adam gave in and GM was declared the winner! Of course both boys still had room for a dessert plate. The next day I dropped the boys off at the Yamhill River and they continued with their fishing contest they had started the day before. GM has always been a great fisherman, but he was edged out by Jon who had the home field advantage. The boys waded through the river, swam, fished and had a great time. We picked the boys up and went to our favorite Mexican Restaurant and then spent the rest of the evening at the local park. What a great visit. GM is now a Sergeant in the Army and is now back in Baghdad. Please keep him in your prayers.

The boys are all doing well. Adam keeps busy with his music and Church stuff. He practices with the Church group on Saturday nights and then plays at Sunday morning and evening services. Monday he has Youth Group and then on Thursdays he goes to a bible study where they visit homes of troubled youths.

Jon is one busy guy also. He is President of the Freshman Class; with his role in Leadership he attends and helps to plan many of the functions at the High School. He was selected to the Homecoming Court and of course his Cross Country running. Jons team is doing Awesome!
Jon and Aaron both have been having knee problems. Remember Aaron is Jons running partner that ran with him even through the Nationals this summer. So these two have been running non-stop since last Spring. Well it has taken a toll on their young legs. To keep them in shape but not put pressure on their legs, they have been running in the community pool in McMinnville. They put on a buoyant belt and they get in the deep end of the pool and run. We trade off with Aarons parents and get them in to town, to the pool whenever we can. Jon and Aaron have missed several meets because of their knees, but with the end of the season near they are back in shape and ready to run. Last week at a meet they went up against all the teams in District 2 (our district) and District 3 and Amity finished #1! Next week is the official District Meet and the top 2 teams move on to the State Meet. What an accomplishment for such a young team.

Cody is enjoying school. He is in a combined 3rd and 4th grade class this year (Cody is in 3rd). It seems to be working out well. He is an avid reader and he churns through the books as fast as Lorelei can cart them home from the library.

Lorelei is officially out of the Child Care business! She has been subbing for the past several weeks. She now has the freedom to turn down jobs and sub where and when she wants to (hey I wish I had a gig like that). We celebrated our 18th Anniversary this month! Wow, time flies when youre having fun.

Around the place, we had a good year with the garden and orchard. We had Pears and Apples and Raspberries. We had cucumbers and Tomatoes. We are now finishing up the grapes that are still hanging on the vines and eating the few remaining tomatoes. This weekend we will turn the chickens loose in the garden to clean it up before winter. Lorelei harvested some Elderberries yesterday and made her cold remedy concoction.

The boys and I got the roof put on over the outdoor kitchen. We repainted the house a slightly more green shade of green. The boys and I got most of the oak tree cut up and split. We now have approximately two cords of firewood for use in the outdoor cooking pit.

In animal news, the chickens are laying fewer eggs with the diminished daylight. I will hook up a light in their coop soon. Buddy is still hanging on. Queenie had puppies last Sunday! She has been a very good mom so far and now we have to figure out what to do with 8 new pups!
Thats it for now!
