Hello All,

I hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend. The weather here last week was unseasonably warm, about ten degrees hotter than normal. It got up into the 90's a couple of days. Today is cloudy and cooler. We have stayed home mostly this weekend. I started putting in a sliding glass door in the master bedroom for Lorelei. It is turning into one of those projects that you think should take a day and it turns into three! Oh well, I should know better by now!

Adam went to "outdoor school" last week. All the fifth graders from Amity grade school go every year. They went to the high desert near Bend. They stay in a State Park campground in tents. They make short jaunts from there. They went to an observatory to look at stars, the high desert museum, the "lava cave" and other places. They left Tuesday morning and got back Friday evening. Lorelei, Cody and I drove over on Wednesday to visit and go to the lava cave. It was our first long drive with "the wild man". He did OK but after about an hour he said, "I want out". It was Lorelei's' first trip east of the Cascades. There is such a difference in scenery as you cross the mountains. We went into the lava tube with 90 fifth graders! There are no lights in the cave! It was 90 degrees outside the cave and 42 degrees inside! We all had flashlights and lanterns. There is a very crude path, it is almost untouched by modernization. I did not realize how long the cave was! I guessed over a half a mile, Adam said it was almost a mile! As we entered the cave most of the more adventurous took off to see who could reach the end first. We of course had the "wild man", he actually did great! As we got toward the end, groups started returning on their way out. We first had a report that Adam was crawling on his belly through the narrow end of the passage to try and reach the very end. We continued on, scrambling over rocks into the darkness. The next group that came by said something about Adam being way down in there! Then a group passed us and said that Adam had touched the end of the cave! Well we finally met up with Adam, he was quite dirty from crawling through the dirt. We started back and about halfway on the return, Cody decided that he was tired! Well I figured that might happen. So I carried him most of the way back. He is getting quite heavy!
We went back to the kids' camp and visited and helped a bit with dinner preparation and then we had to get started back. We left a little after 5:00 PM, stopped and grabbed a burger, and we got back to Amity around 9 o-clock. It was a long day!

Jonathan is doing well. He spent the night at a friends on Friday. His friend Jeff lives on a farm. He rode on a tractor while Jeff drove and Jeffs' dad followed behind and moved the irrigation pipes. This time of year is very busy for the farmers. They work every day, many times long into the night to get the fields plowed. Jeffs' mom and dad both work the farm and Jeff is taken care of by his older sisters.

Cody is almost three! What a great kid he is! (most of the time). He loves these long warm days so he can be outside. He loves digging in the dirt. He wants ALL of his trucks outside in the dirt. We explain to him that once in the dirt they cannot come back inside until they have been washed! The other night he was outside by himself, it was nearly dark and finally we heard the kitchen door open. Shortly after I heard Lorelei yell "NO". Well, Cody had taken his dirty hot wheel cars and put them in a plastic tub and "washed them" so he could bring them back inside! Let's just say that they were not "COMPLETELY" clean.

In animal news, the chicks are almost full-grown now. They have been beaten up by the older hens constantly. I hope they start to fight back soon. We did have one of the older hens die of unknown causes a couple of weeks ago. Dog, cat, and ducks are all fine.

That's about it for now!
