| May 24th 2003 Hello All, Well it has been one wet Spring so far! It has been difficult getting many of the projects finished. The boys have finished up Spring sports. Jons team had a great soccer season. In the final game of the year they soundly defeated their archrivals 5-0! In 6 seasons of play there has never been more than 2 goals separating the two teams. Adam finished up the Track Season. He did well this year in the High Jump, placing 3rd and 4th in two of the meets. He also ran the 100, 200, and the 4 by 400 meter relay. One of the Meets Lorelei, Cody and I attended. There was this kid from another school and he was FAST! He ran the sprints and it seemed like he was in every race! He won nearly every race. The final race of the Meet was the 4 by 400 meter relay, (4 team members each run 1 lap). The team this kid was on by the 2nd lap was ahead by a large margin. Adam was running the 3rd leg and he lined up next to this kid, Lorelei and I thought oh great! Adam actually did quite well, although he did not gain, we were very excited that he did not lose ground, we thought good maybe our anchor man can close the gap as the kid came around to hand off to his teams anchor man, Lorelei and I, almost in unison, gasped oh crap there are two of them! We had not realized during the entire Meet that there were twins! Adam was the Spelling B champ for the Middle School this year. The Principal, Mr. Riddell, drove Adam to the regional contest last week, and then bought him lunch afterwards! Jon just got back from Outdoor School. His entire 5th grade class went over to central Oregon for the week. Cody is his adorable self. He had great fun at the Amity Park Easter Egg Hunt. He and his brother Jon made a beautiful Easter flower arrangement from stuff they picked here on the property. It really looked as though it had come from a florist! Lorelei sang in the Easter Choir. A few weeks back, we had one of those weeks, you know, where everything goes wrong at once! Why do things happen that way? So the beginning of the week I get sick, Prostatitas, I do not recommend this ailment to any males reading this, things at work were coming unraveled with a new customer, Wednesday I am at work, and my hard drive crashes on my computer! So I am in the middle of trying to get that figured out and the phone rings, its Lorelei and shes in a panic. She was on her way down the hill to a teaching job and the truck broke down! At this point I think to myself and I even said out loud what else could go wrong these are words you really should think twice about saying! The next day I turn on our home computer and it goes into the diagnostics, repairing sectors on the hard drive! As for everything being fixed, well any of you that know me very well, know that I probably will never be fixed! My computer at work eventually got fixed, of course the computer guy said no problem you will be up and running in an hour, have any of you ever heard that from a computer guy? Translation: Your computer will actually turn back on in an hour, but all of your custom settings will be lost and it will take you two days to reset them. All of the software has not been restored and some of it will not work. When your computer turns on it will be looking for hardware and no one will know why. Your e-mail will now have weird time date stamps, the network printers wont work, etc. etc. The truck, well it needed some work done to it anyway, that I had been putting off. Luckily it just overheated. I pulled it apart and replaced the timing belt, hoses, water pump and thermostat. Its running good and I didnt have any parts left over, hmmm, strange. We were reminded during this event of some of the reasons we enjoy our small town. When Lorelei broke down on the road two vehicles stopped immediately and offered assistance. One very nice lady stopped and after a short conversation, Lorelei realized she was a neighbor of a friend of ours, Kathy, who teaches at the very school Lorelei was on her way to substitute at. The lady used her cell phone and a couple of quick calls found our friend on her way to work coming down the hill. Kathy stopped and picked up Lorelei and the boys. Dropped the boys at school and took Lorelei to work. Carmine, Kathys husband offered to look at the truck if we needed. We then had several calls from neighbors and friends who saw our truck parked along side the road. Everyone offered assistance. The computer here at home, well, I was able to get it backed up before it died, we put the modem, zip drive, and the cd burner, into Adams computer and we are using it for now as the family system. As time and funds allow, we will build a new one. We can rebuild him, we will make him better, faster. Lorelei seems to be doing some better. She went to a naturopath and has done a bunch of reading on sinuses. We think she needs some pills the naturopath recommends, but they are really expensive! Of course our great HMO insurance will not cover a prescription from a naturopath. So we buy some of the pills ourselves and Lorelei starts feeling better. We only bought a 12 day supply (after much reading, she needs to be taking them for 4-6 weeks!). Three days after the pills are gone, the sinus symptoms return. Lorelei has already gone to her GP and she has refused to give her a prescription for these pills until she has had an ultrasound and some other test. Of course this same GP has had no problem prescribing 3 different regimens of potent antibiotics that have done nothing! So I recommended Lorelei go to my GP, he is in the same office and he is a reasonable guy. We talked about, that this could cause some consternation if and when the two Docs realize Lorelei is trying to go around the other, but what the heck, I say it cant hurt! So after educating the doctor on sinuses, (remember doctors are taught to treat the symptom, not the cause of illness) he gives Lorelei a prescription for 3 more weeks of pills but only half the strength of what she originally was taking. So we will see! In garden news, we planted late and we still had a freeze that killed the cucumbers! We will need to get some more. The boys and I built a fence around the raspberries to keep the deer out. The strawberries are in bloom! Yum! In animal news, Wyatt (stray black Lab) did not pass the class, Chewing 101, nor did he pass the class, Wreaking General Havoc 101, Chasing Ducks 101, Carrying Dead Animals Around 101, or any other class he took for that matter. Just too much going on right now to train him. The three new ducks are all grown and have joined the other two. I am thinking about hanging a sign around their neck coyote food, just so the coyotes will not be confused about why the ducks are here. Shaq the cat is sooooo glad Wyatt failed his classes, he is back sleeping in the mudroom curled up next to Buddy the king of fetch. I think the chickens are getting old! Not as many eggs as in the past. I thinks maybe a stew pot is in their future! Thats about it for now, keep those cards and letters coming, Glynn Jr. |
