Hello All,
Well it has been a fun winter so far. We have had our share of cold, rain, snow and ice, although not as bad as some of you back east! Lorelei and the boys are always wanting it to snow, so when it started coming down last month they were very excited. Then the temperature dropped in to the teens and the snow and ice stayed around for about two weeks. I had to put chains on the vehicles to get out of the driveway and up onto the road. Lorelei missed days of work and the school district used up all their snow days. Of course there was some fun mixed in there too. One evening Jon, Cody and I set up some flood lights outside and shined them down onto our yard area. We got shovels and made a sled run from the top of the driveway down into the front yard. We had a blast! Of course the boys made snowmen and we had snowball fights. We had to put lights in the wellhead to keep it from freezing. Jon had a heck of a time keeping the animals with water they could drink. Had some snow again on Thursday, but back to rain today. Come on spring!

The boys are finished up with Basketball. Adams JV team did awesome and they only lost 1 game. There one loss was to a private school in Portland that had 4 guys about 64! Wow those kids were big. Jons freshman team only lost 4 games and all of those were close. Cody had a great time playing on his third grade team. I am not sure he is going to be a sports guy like his big brothers. I was talking to him a couple of weeks ago about being aggressive on the court. I said Cody, when that ball is loose on the floor, you dive on it He looked at me with a furrowed brow and said, can I just bend over and pick it up? Oh well, we will see, this was his first organized sport. Lorelei and I enjoyed the games. We traveled to some of the away games and I took some 2,500 pictures during the season.

Well its now on to Track season and only Jon will be running, so things will not be quite so hectic. There have been some changes in the coaching staff at the high school. Also our track has been deemed unsafe, so there will not be any home meets this year. You can read about it here if you like.

I will not delve too deeply into my disgruntled attitude about Public School Bureaucracy and why we would let our facility run down to the point of condemning it and then the only thing to do is tear it out and put in a new one! Can you imagine any of these people in charge, letting their own homes run down to the point they would need to be torn down and then needing to build a new one? Ok I guess I delved a little bit! Will keep you posted on Jon and his running. Adam stays busy with his youth group and his music. Jon went to his youth groups winter retreat last weekend. They spent 3 days at a lodge up near Mt. Hood and had a great time.

Lorelei, Cody and I went to the Gorge last Monday to see some of the many waterfalls in the area. In the 13-1/2 years we have lived here, Lorelei has never been. We had a great day. Some of the falls are a short hike, and some are a long hike from the road. We plan on returning when the weather is better. I will put some pics on the website next week.

Lorelei is doing well. She finished up more treatment last month for skin cancer. Her chest had many cancerous spots that she treated for 3 weeks with the cream that reacts with them. She was not a happy camper during that time! She has been subbing and working with the mentally handicapped kids from around the county. She takes great care of us 4 yahoos.

Around the place, I got an early jump on some yard work last weekend. I got the grapes trimmed and some cleanup done. Lorelei asked why the little Madrone tree beside the driveway was looking so puny. I really didnt think she would notice that the week before Jon and I (Ok it was mostly me) cut down a 40 foot Maple tree that landed right on it! I have several more Maples that I want to cut down before they bud out; hopefully I have the time and energy.

The animals are doing well. Buddy is still around. The chickens are laying too many eggs and we are giving them away by the dozens. Last week we had egg salad, omelets, more egg salad and some really good casserole thing with eggs in it. Cody wants to get some chicks this year. I told him we will get something that will LEAVE when it gets full grown. Something like Quail or Pheasant.

I did some updating of the website last week. There is a new link to a few pictures of Christmas. I will put up some more pics this week. See, all those ugly letters your wrote last month worked!
