| 01-27-01 Hello All, Well the most snow that we have ever had "stick" is on the ground now! Four to six inches it looks like from the window. The boys are itching to get outside, I am trying to hold them back so Lorelei can rest a little longer. The trees are weighted heavily and it looks like along with the beauty and fun there is going to be some work involved. It looks like a large branch from an oak has fallen on Codys' swing set! More trees look like they are in danger of toppling. There is no way we are going any where today unless one of the neighbors plows the hill. The scene is very beautiful! I see the birds outside looking in the empty feeder for some scraps, I will go out this morning and fill it, it will be especially difficult for them today to find food elsewhere. In other news the boys are working hard at chess, next Saturday is the regional tournament. Adam will go with his middle school team. Jon will just compete on the individual level since his grade school does not have a team. We have also been practicing basketball on Saturdays. In animal news all seems well. The chickens are still laying plenty of eggs. We send some to a neighbor down the road. Lorelei also takes some to the librarian in town, she enjoys the fresh eggs. Buddy "the king of fetch" got a MUCH NEEDED bath last weekend. The "apple" shampoo helped, but your nostrils are still in for a shock if you get too close. The ducks are in the pond this morning, it will be interesting to see how they do in the snow! A couple of weekends ago the boys had some friends over. They were doing outside stuff, Cody and I were working on our sliding pump house. We were digging and Cody was picking up worms that I was uncovering. He was talking to me and I was only paying half attention. We got back on the garden tractor to head back down for another load of gravel, when I realized that what he had been telling me was, he was putting the worms in his jacket pockets, so he could save them! We had quite the time finding all of them. The boys in the meantime were trying to find enough dry wood to start a campfire. They got one going and then decided they wanted to cook outside over the fire. Lorelei was in town, so I said "go for it". They got some hot dogs, eggs, and some fixings. Cody was right in the middle, not wanting to be left out. Between 5 boys and a 3 year old they cooked and ate 10 hot dogs and a dozen and a half eggs! Well at least when Lorelei got home she did not have to worry about making them dinner. Well after surveying the damage outside, we had a tree down over the driveway, there is a large maple down over one of our trails, many of the small firs are completely bent over from the weight of the snow. I guess they will pop back up when it melts, at least I hope so. We have had fun outside, the boys made huge snow balls, they made a snow fort. We started the quad and pulled them behind with a water-ski rope. Adam went to a friends further up the hill, it sounds like they have even more snow up there, we have as much as nine inches up on the knoll. The boys are hoping the school bus will not be able to make it up the hill tomorrow. I rode up to the road and it looks like it has been plowed so I think they are out of luck! Well that's about it for now. I will post some pics of the snow, so check them out! Glynn Jr. |
