Northwest Newsletter 01-07-07
Hello All,
Well its been awhile since I last wrote. Thanksgiving this year was memorable in that Lorelei wasnt here! She has a very good friend that lives in Buffalo New York and she was having her 50th Birthday. Also Lorelei has lots of relatives on her mothers side that are on the east coast and her Aunt Barbara said that she could stay with her. Lorelei waited to find the right air fare (that is a whole story in itself) and off she went, two days before Thanksgiving. She had a wonderful time. Her friend Rosario (turning 50) did not know she was coming and was VERY surprised. Lorelei met Aunts and Cousins she had not seen in 30 years. She brought back wonderful pictures and memories.

Back at home us boys did fine. We had Thanksgiving at the local all you can eat buffet. We went out to breakfast one morning. We got up and went shopping on black Friday at 5 a.m. We had a great time!

Well we made it through all the birthdays and holidays once again. This time of year is very busy. First Jon turned 15 in November. Then Lorelei had her 49th on Dec. 4th, then later in Dec. Adam turned 17 and then we finish up with me having my 39th birthday here in Jan., wow everyone else just keeps getting older, but not me!

The boys are staying busy as usual. Adam is the starting point guard for the J.V. basketball team. The official league season started this week although they have played some 10 pre-season games. Thus far they are undefeated. Adam has a new found fervor for the game and is attacking the basket and doing a great job passing the ball. Of course he is still playing music, practicing guitar (bass and acoustic) and drums almost everyday.

Jon is the starting point guard for the freshman (Jv2), basketball team. They are also undefeated. Jon plays like there is no tomorrow and his mom screams every time he flies through the air. For those of you with access to the internet here is a link to some basketball pictures of the team. Only two of Jons games are posted now.

More games will be posted next week. Jon is #21 and his folders will be tagged as jv2. Adam is #12 and his folders will be tagged jv.

Cody is also playing basketball for the first time this year. His coaches keep trying to get these 3rd graders to run a play and they are frustrated. I finally told one of the coaches at the last practice that from my experience you have trouble getting 8th graders to run a play, there is no way 3rd graders are going to. There is just too much going on and they get too excited. Just getting them to run to the correct end of the court and not bunch up into a giant ball under the basket will be a major accomplishment.

Lorelei is doing well. She now substitutes as a teachers aid. On days when her boys are playing ball, she doesnt accept jobs. She had another spot removed from her left arm a few weeks ago. About a dime size chunk was removed. Tests came back and showed that they got all of the cancerous cells. She goes back in a couple of months for another thorough check up.

In animal news the chickens are laying bunches of eggs! We have been giving away fresh eggs by the carton. The neighbor up the street yesterday asked for 6 eggs so we sent her 18. The 14 hens are a little crowded in the coop that was designed for 8. As soon as spring comes we will move 6 of them to the chicken tractor. The dogs are doing well. Buddy is still hobbling around. He can no longer hear, so we have taken to giving him hand signals. Queenie is her feisty self and is good company for Buddy.

Around the place not too much has been happening. The weather has generally been wet and cold. I have used the time to get caught up on my computer and photography stuff. Also I have cleared out some of the projects that had stacked up in my small workshop over the summer. Several shelves have been sanded and repainted. A shelving cabinet for Codys many Legos was finished and put into service as well as a small nightstand for me!

Christmas was quiet. Just us, here on the homestead. Adam wanted only money to put towards music stuff and eventually a car. Jon got a small digital camera and some other stuff he wanted. Cody got a computer game, a movie and some Legos of course. We had a nice quiet day.

The family website has not been updated in several months. For those of you new to the newsletter here is the link.
