TURANDOT Traced: Kenneth and Erika Klemmer, owners of TURANDOT, a 1963 Arthur Robb Yawl, recieved a long awaited phone call last month. Clark Chapin of Plymouth, MI sailed on TURANDOT ex-SERENADE in the 1967, 1968 and 1969 Port Huron to Mackinac race. SERENADE won her class in 1968. Clark's late uncle Martin Chapin was the owner of the boat and Clark's father maintained it from 1965 to 1970, having purchased it from the original owner, John C Hopkins of Cleaveland. Both Clark and his father are very excited to hear the boat is still around and loved. Both plan to visit the boat in the near future.. Clark sent along an exciting account of the 1968 race that included some challenging weather that will be the subject of a future column.. |
