Bible Park-Almost Heaven
And now a few words from Rick Bible:
BACKGROUND
Since the early 1980's there have been groups wishing to open the area that we now call "The Park Project".
The day after college graduation, May 5, 1996, I have sought to have an area opened to the public that was a popular meeting place in the early 1980's. The property located just north of the River Bridge on the Asheville Highway in Greene County. (State Route 70).
A short time after that Bill Carroll, Greeneville Light and Power, and two representatives with the TVA district office and I set down and discussed the possibility of opening this property to the public again. The project was given the go ahead then and now 6 years later we continue the work to achieve the goal of getting the park to the next phase of development.
TVA gave their enthusiastic permission, but it would be up to the county to open and operate it with our own money. Federal grants were available then and are still available for the asking.
In 1996, it was my goal to open the park late that year and call it Bicentennial Park, to commemorate the 200th birthday of Tennessee. After that year was history, I set a new goal to name it Millennium Park. Although that goal has failed to materialize, Johnson City currently has named a project by that name.
Bible Park would have a meaning to the religious community as well as the non-religious community. We are not suggesting that this is the only possible name, but I cannot think of a better fitting name at present. It is God's gift, it is beautiful, and we are in the Bible belt. Overall, we think this would pull in enormous tourist traffic, especially on weekends.
About web page creator: Mr. Richard Gluck is one of the most enthusiastic, brightest, and consciences individuals that I have the pleasure of knowing. I have known Mr. Gluck for approximately 10 years. He has always gone above than beyond what is expected to do a great job.
I would like to thank him for taking the time to set up this web page, and encouragement on this project. I have never thought of giving up on the idea, but he was able to add more enthusiasm when and where it was needed. We have both made contacts that will probably help in achieving our goal of opening this nature area.
Respectfully yours,
Rick Bible
