Is Rudeness Inherited or Learned?
This rant is designed to introduce two things, and my usual complaints about Things As They Are.
The first thing is that it's going to introduce a new section- The Game. The Game is my comments and complaints and such on the state of one of my most favorite game genres, the First Person Shooter. To show how I think a game of that type could be done right, I'm going to produce on this web page every week or so a new section which I call The Game. When I manage to get The Game done on this web page, I should be able and ready to find some group of people to help me to make it. Keep an eye on it, I'm going to pour a lot of great ideas into it.
The second introduction is to my petition for Bandai to bring over a game for the Dreamcast and/or Playstation, Mobile Suit Gundam: Giren's Greed. I've been a big fan on the game itself, and would love to see an American localized version of the game here, and I would like to see it rather soon (by the middle of next year). So, sign the petition. Tell your friends about it, and have them sign the petition. Get out and get the petition signing drive going!
Okay, now, we get to the complaint. I have had the major displeasure of having to defend myself in several of the following circumstances-
Holding a door open for a lady that was coming my way. It was easier, and polite, to open the door up and let her pass first. But, before she got to the door, she started to argue and say that if she was a man, I wouldn't have done it. Then she goes in. I was sorely tempted to close the door on her ass, if only because she probably needed a good spanking.
Being first in line with a large load of groceries, and a guy has only one or two things he's carrying in his hands. I'm in no particular rush, so I tell the guy, "Hey, go ahead, I'm not going anywhere fast." Before anything could happen, the woman running the register said "no cutting in line!" in this shrill voice that sounded like fingernails on chalkboards. I told her I had a lot of stuff, the other guy didn't have much, so why shouldn't he go first since I didn't have anything particularly perishable or needed to go right away. The result was she kept screeching "no cutting in line!" so loud that her supervisor came, and told me that there wasn't any cutting in line. Of course, I could start all the way at the end of the line, giving up my spot, if I felt that I wanted to do a kind deed....
My ATM card expired the day of my birthday, and I hadn't received a new one. I called the credit union, and they said "Oh, you should have contacted us sooner to get a new card." I pointed out to them that I wasn't responsible for making sure that new cards got to their customers. So, the credit union promised to send me a new card-in ten business days. The only reason I didn't starve or run out of gas was that friends and family were willing to take my personal checks until I got a new ATM card.....which was 1) a duplicate of the expired one, and 2) took fourteen business days. The only reason I didn't close my account at the credit union that Monday was that a proper card got there on the Monday after the weekend I received the duplicate card.
Is it so hard for people to go out of their way to do the right thing? Honestly-you try and do a kind deed for someone, holding the door open as they come by and they automatically jump through several logical inconstancies to reach something that makes no sense. Or realizing that someone else could go first and you could wait a bit, but the "rules" (which I doubt there are) won't let you. Or not preparing to go that little bit more for a customer that might recommend people to come to the bank/credit union/store and helping them to get their problems solved. I know now, I'm not going to recommend my credit union to anyone. And this is a shame.
What to do to solve it? I don't honestly know, except to point it out and to hope, perhaps foolishly, that people are in general decent and all they need is reminding on occasion that they have to be decent to other people. In short, we have to be kind to each other, else-who else will be?
New rant, next week. I promise it will be jam-packed full of all my thoughts.
PS-If anyone has a legal copy of the Playstation Ghost In The Shell game, I'd be very glad to negotiate out a reasonable price for a copy. Thank you.
You want to come here and hear my opinion, you're welcome to come by. If not, you can Go Away, and let other people in.
Check out the Previous Rant.
