Zyklon  'World Ov Worms'
Candlelight, 2001
Tyrant:
Samoth return's with essentially a restructured Zyklon B ( I know he claims otherwise ) this time with the help of Daemon ( Limbonic Art ) and Destructhor ( Myrkskog ). Zyklon play a interesting breed of deathmetal with influences ranging from Morbid Angel through to Myrkskog, and a large dose of Zyklon B. The blending of death and blackmetal is nothing uncommon these days, but Zyklon approach their blend of these two themes ( leaning more heavily towards death ) in a more modern way than most with alot of industrial style samples and different ideas as well as guest vocals by Garm ( Borknagar, Ulver ) and come out sounding admirably original . Heavy, brutal, and uninviting, these are the keywords in the Zyklon sound, which sits in the mid to fast tempo range. Good song writing skills never go astray either and with lots of tempo shifts, timing changes and a good ear for dropping a riff back in these guys keep your attention. Utilizing the factors that Zyklon B did so well, Zyklon get a real hateful sound through their music similar to that experienced when listening to Myrkskog, and with excellent and highly original artwork, the future looks bright for the World Ov Worms.

Zyklon   Aeon
Candlelight , 2003
Tyrant:
The much hyped and anticipated return of Zyklon is here and its been worth the wait. Aeon is not vastly different from World Ov Worms in reality, it has a slightly more polished feel with more of a death metal influence. Aeon utilizes all of the Zyklon staples from the debut like classic death metal Core Solution, death/black crossovers Subtle Manipulation ( Aeons answer to Hammer Revelation ), well placed lead sections - most apparent in Psyklon Aeon, Two Thousand Years, and Specimen Eruption, and even thrash in 'The Prophetic Method'. The occasional semi industrial segments surface again in a few tracks most noticeably Electric Current and the atmospheric An Eclectic Manner with vocals by Red Harvests Ofu Kahn. Daemon ( Limbonic Art ) provides only minor backing vocals in a few tracks whilst main vocal duties are handed over to bassist Secthdamon ( Myrkskog ) who has a deeper more deathly growl. A small amount of keyboards have been tastefully integrated in the album to flavor certain passages without overpowering any of the musics natural brutality. Overall Aeon is a slightly better, more varied, and more confident album with great lyrics ( again by Bard Faust ), and excellent matching artwork.

Zyklon   Disintegrate
Candlelight, 2006
Tyrant:
Disintegrate pushes away from the more experimental leanings of the first two Zyklon albums in favour of a more structured less industrialised approach. Featuring ten shorter tracks ranging inbetween 3-5 minutes, Disintegrate does away with the lengthy samples and intro segments and concentrates on brutal extreme metal ( think of an album full of Core Solution style tracks ). Although from the first chords of opener 'In Hindsight' it is obvious that this is Zyklon, it seems that they have dropped some of their original feeling by removing the samples and electronica in favour of a more starightforward attack. It becomes apparent after a few tracks that Secthdamon is a fairly limited vocalist in terms of pitch and variation and although he does a good job of growling/rasping and singing in his gravelly semi clean voice alot of the material begins to bleed together but that is also thanks to a couple of filler tracks like 'Underdog' which fail to incite much interest. Gripes aside however this is still a potent album of thrashing death/black/thrash and the opening trio of songs as well as 'Wrenched' should bring a smile to most fans faces. The classy artwork and Faust's cynical lyrics still add a new and interesting dimension to the overall presentation of Disintegrate making it a worthwhile purchase for fans of the bands previous works, just not essential for anyone else.
