Six Feet Under - True Carnage
Metal Blade, 2001
Gloon:
Firstly I am a big Six Feet Under fan, I have defended them for their cheesiness and proudly say that I own all their disks, however I could have quite happily gone through life without having heard this one, True Carnage sucks, big time. The fact that SFU are responsible for it just makes it worse. This album answers every clich that us, as Death Metal fans, have to suffer from those who hate us. Clich 1, Death Metal bands are talentless noisemakers. True Carnage is this and more as the huge catchy riffs of old are nowhere to be seen and are replaced by crap forgettable numbers with little to no skill. Clich 2, Death Metal vocalists can't sing. Mr Barnes possibly gives us his worse performance since leaving Cannibal Corpse sounding wheezy, guttural and unintelligible in all the wrong ways (this wasn't Macabre the last I checked). Clich 3, Death Metal lyrics are stupid. 'Snakes' people fucking 'Snakes' that is just one argument. But the crowning jewel on this pile of mouldy cheddar is 'One Bullet Left' a duet with Ice T, an absolute cheese fest of mammoth proportions which had me in stitches during the first, second and third time I played it. And thats the really sad thing, you will find yourself sighing, smirking and out right laughing your fucking head off throughout this album and the funniest thing is it is ment to be serious. Overall a crap Death Metal album made funny simply by its existence, however the laughter abruptly stops once you realise you paid $30 for it. Fuck!

Six Feet Under Graveyard Classics 2
Metal Blade, 2004
Gloon:
Theres been some pretty bonehead ideas in metal over the years: Dave Vincent leaving Morbid Angel to play in the Genotorturers, Dave Mustaine giving away the drugs, Metallica releasing Load, however all seem a little less stupid compared to covering a complete classic rock album, especially when youre a Death Metal outfit. SFUs first venture into the cover arena resulted in the interesting yet equally hilarious Graveyard Classics which saw them cover everything from the Sex Pistols & Deep Purple to Exodus and Black Sabbath. Now a highlight of the original was the bands cover of ACDCs TNT it fit nicely within what SFU do however successfully covering one song and covering a whole album is a totally different thing. Basically all GC2 does is take the piss out of Back in Black cause to call this a tribute would be an insult to ACDC and SFU alike. The songs are all produced with the trademark SFU guitar sound and Barnes doesnt even attempt to authentically cover the respective classics vocally but just rasps and grunts along like he always has. No folks all GC2 is good for is whacking on to your drunk mates and having a giggle round the bong, if you want the real deal go buy the original. Further proof that SFU are sinking further and further towards their name sake and oblivion.

Six Feet Under Bringer of Blood
Metal Blade, 2005
Gloon:
Everyones favourite stoner zombies are back with hopefully an album of redemption after some puzzling and some outright shit recent releases. Bringer of Blood certainly starts out with the right intentions with opener Sick in the Head returning to the repetition approach and sound of Warpath and Maximum Violence to good effect however the warm glow doesnt last long as next up is the truly terrible Amerika the Brutal a shocker in any ones opinion. Mr Barnes also unfortunately still sounds terrible sound even more warbbly than usual like hes gargling on hes own blood and spittle rather than barking out in hes guttural growl. However all is not lost Murdered in the Basement is a rockin catchy number (classic SFU) and theres even a throw back to some more Haunted style cuts in When Skin Turns Blue and Braindead. The real problem though is basically the bands inability to write a classic song in recent times, while the first three albums were chock a block with memorable tunes recent efforts have failed to give us more than average and filler tunes. Bringer of Blood is a perfect example of just lazy song writing as the band are almost becoming the death metal equivalent of Soulfly for rehashing fromer glories. On the whole a small return to form considering their recent output, however in regards to what they can do and have produced in the past still well shy of the mark.
