Gloon from the Full Metal Mayhem team caught up with Phil Fasciana guitarist with the death gods Malevolent Creation and brainchild of sick grinders Hate Plow. Relationships with past members, new vocalists and the passing of Chuck were discussed. Firstly your thoughts on the passing of Chuck Schuldiner (may he rest in peace) thought by many to be one of the fathers of Death Metal. How much did his early musical endeavours help shape yourself and Malevolent Creation, were Death ever an influence and how? [Phil] Chuck's passing is quite sad, I was fortunate to meet Chuck in 1988 when M.C. moved to Florida. Death was playing in Miami, and i was introduced to him by Paul Masvidal and Sean Rienert from the band Cynic, and had become friend's with him since then. He was the one who introduced me to Scott Burns, who in turn recorded our 3rd demo in 1990 and scored us a record deal. Chuck had a bid influence on me,because until i heard "Scream Bloody Gore" I thought Slayer, Destruction and Kreator were the heaviest band's alive, Death proved they were the heaviest, and I was blown away by them. He was a great musician and a very cool person, I wish his friend's and family all the best. He will truly be missed!!!!! I recently found a copy of 'Ten Commandments' as per our last talk, its been a long time since those early days of the death boom, many have come and gone yet Malevolent are stronger than ever, how did the band and the man survive the apparent dark years of Death Metal when in the mid nineties it was declared pretty much dead by critics and wankers world wide? [Phil] Around that time we were having line up problem's, but we continued at a slower pace until around 97-98 when Metal seemed to be getting bigger here in the states and our band was 100% again.

Brett's been back for two going on three albums now, apart from the legal problems (fucking pigs) hows the enthusiasm within the camp of not only Brett but the band as a whole? are the days of constant line up changes a thing of the past for the millennium MC? [Phil] At this time, this is the first interview I am doing since we fired Brett Hoffman for the 2nd time. Last week we made the desicion to get rid of him for good. When we let him re-join, it was only if he would quit doing drug's and control his drinking problem, and since his release from jail in April it has only become worse. We cannot continue with him in these condition's and refuse to. His replacement is Kyle Symons from HatePlow, who blow's him away and is one of my best friend's who know's the M.C. material better than anyone. He will be doing the European Tour and new album. We have no one holding us back any more!!!!!

Also hows the relationship with former band member Jason? has the hatchet been buried or does it still want to be buried (in a part of his body that is?) [Phil] Me and Jason have patched up our differences about 2 years ago. I would never play in a band with him again, but we are still friend's. Him and Brett should form a band!!!! New album 'The Will to Kill' what can we expect, any surprises? I have been noticing a bit of black metal riffing sneaking in lately, most notably within 'Envenomed'? [Phil] We have 15 new song's and it is hard to describe everything right now. But me and Rob have wrote some of the best song's yet and cannot wait to record them with Kyle and hear how brutal they really are. There are a lot more thrash element's, but played at very intense speed's!!!!
Malevolent are rolling forward nicely how about your other project Hate Plow anything on the horizon or is two albums enough to exorcist your inner grind? [Phil] Hate Plow is now on hold for a while since Kyle the vocalist has joined M.C. We will record again when the time is right, right now we are focusing on the new M.C material which still has many grind elements as well. Finally two self-indulgent questions if I may. Firstly something thats been pissing me off for a while, how come no tracks from Still Born feature on Manifestation? and secondly, how about a tour downunder, come on man I'm begging!!!!!!!! [Phil] There are no song's from our earlier albums on Manifestation because Pavement Music put that cd together and Roadrunner Records would not give permission to use them. Although we will be re-recording 2 song's from the Stillborn album when we record our new cd. If you know a promoter who is interested in bringing us down under, contact us and we would love to play (kill) in your country!!!!
