| Oxiplegatz 'Worlds And Worlds' Seasons Of Mist , 1996 Lord Pale : Oxiplegatz is a side project of Alf Svensson ( At The Gates ) of melodic blackend space metal . Being only a single mand band , Oxiplegatz utilises a drum machine , which although well programmed , offers a weak and unsatisfying sound . Worlds And Worlds displays a wide variety of musical tempos from fast speed picking to slower sedated moments drowned in cheesy Sci Fi synth which reflects the rather cheesy Sci Fi lyrics of an alien battle for Earth . Vocal delivery comes mainly in a blackend rasp which occasionally deepens a little to a throaty shout wit hbreif segments of clean male vibrato vocals . A female vocalist makes a guest appearence throught the album singing in a few versus adding to the 80's alien flick feel which permeates from this release . Unfortuantely Worlds And Worlds is graced with a rather lo fi production making the faster moments of the sound mesh together making it hard to pick out the individual elements of the sound . Overall a fair release , but more effort is required . Favourite Tracks - Abandon Earth , First Contact - Conflict , Usurpers Mark - 6.5/10 Oxiplegatz 'Sidereal Journey' Season Of Mist , 1998 Lord Pale : Oxiplegatz present a 42 and a half minute 33 track concept album centering around a race of people ( who's sun is being devoured by a black hole ) who decide to abandon their homeworld and head for the stars . The lyrics follow their journey through the perils of space in search of a new home . Essentially Sidereal Journey is exactly the same breed of melodic metal with cheesy Sci Fi synth as Worlds And Worlds except with a clearer and more powerful production . The clean male vibrato vocals ( which are used more prominently ) , the female vocals , and the blackened raspy vocals are all present , as well as the rarely used distorted vocals from the first release . The 33 tracks are essentially only defined by cretain points in the lyrics ( although the music does change for each segment ) all the tracks flow together without their being any dead time making Sidereal Journey essentially one big epic space song . Fans of the previous release should like this with the production problem being rectified and a more envolving smoother storyline without any real surprises being throw in . Another ( this time more satisfying ) release of relaxing , involving , and cheesy melodramatic Sci Fi metal . Favourite Tracks - ( Play as an album ) Mark - 8/10 |
