| Mysterium 'The Glowering Facades Of Night' Prophecy , 2000 Lord Pale : Mysterium play a strange breed of prophecy darkmetal that shows broad spectrum progression into various fields . A fair production graces the album whose crunching guitars deliver groove laden riffs in the vien of Covenant's 'Nexus Polaris' whilst piano synth of the same elk twinkles in the background . Melodic guitar passages also enter the fray but mainly serve to acompany the the crunchy metal riffs or float into the synth to add melody . Acoustic intros run side by side samples of lightning , and orchestral synth lines which create a gentle foreboding atmosphere . Gothic atmospheres grace the scene in some songs and yet others lend a more doom style heavy atmosphere , and its this combination that makes the darkmetal tag the closest relative to pass to Mysterium . The sound becomes more complex when some flutes are added lending a slightly folkish overtone to some parts , but with such dynamics and ( hopefully ) a bigger budget then the next Mysterium release will be something to watch . 'The Glowering Facades Of Night' has a multitude of vocals deliveries from haunting female vocals , to deep clean male vocals , to spoken passages , to black rasps and death growls . Highlights include the fantastic build up that starts 'Ode To The Dark One' with its chuggy riffs and flute acompanyment that goes off when the double kicks drop in . Overall a good debut effort .
