Myrkskog  Deathmachine
Candlelight, 2000
Lord Pale:
Myrkskog play aggressive Norwegian black/thrash . Excellent cover and booklet, lend a high quality feel. Explicit hateful misanthropic lyrics are spat vehemently in an abrasive styled rasping vocal delivery. The guitaring is fast, heavy and furious, with blasting drumming containing lots of double kicks and blast beats, with suitable slow downs and sample breaks. Im not usually into the whole black/thrash cross over genre but Myrkskog seem to pull it off well, though it did take a few spins of the disc to fully appreciate. One thing I did notice was a virtual stealing of a riff in the song Synthetic Lifeworm where both the guitar and the subtle keyboards almost exactly follow the riff from Dimmu Borgirs Moon Childs Domain . Deathmachine contains 9 tracks the last of which is a remix of the fifth track Syndrome 9 ( touched up in a more hard disco direction ) and is one of the few attempts at doing this sort of thing in the scene that actually works quite well . Musically portraying an eerie pissed off morbid misanthropy that highlights the lyrical bile perfectly .
