Lord Kaos - Thorns of Impurity
Warhead, 1996
Lord Pale
Carpe Terebrum's southern cousin Lord Kaos hail from Australia and play much of the same vein as "Mirrored Hate Painting". Indeed song writer Astennu writes the music for both bands and it shows. Thorns of Impurity is recorded with lower grade equipment than Carpe Terebrum but this sound invites the listener into darker realms than Carpe achieved. Musically a mix of slower doomier style riffs meets frantic black metal riffing with Astennus rather distinctive drumming. Dark keyboards float around like eternal shades complementing and highlighting the music. Vocally very similar throughout the album although some deathly growls accompany the predominant black metal screeches. Some backing harmonies are used like in the first Terebrum album but aren't as well done. Overall a very good release for Australian BM that few on the Southern Shores have so aptly attempted .
