Aborym  Kali Yuga Bizarre
Scarlet , 1999
Lord Pale :
This album is a bit of a mixed bag of ideas . Essentially it remains somewhere in the blackmetal realm , but incorporates elements of industrial , some clear vocals , some medieval keyboards , some gothic synth  , some thrash , and features both snatting vocals and the low snarl of Atilla (
Mayhem session vocalist ) . All the songs have the same kind of feel about them but none truly sound the same . This unfortunately makes the album sound a little disjointed , but on the other hand provides a fair amount of variation as well . Track 4 Roma Divina Urbs is an eight minute medieval blackmetal track where as the preceding track Hellraiser is a short ambient keyboard piece with Atillas crooning vocals creating an eerie sick atmosphere . But thats not all Track 8 Metal Stricken Terror Action is a blackened thrash sing a long style track with chants , whilst track 2 sounds reminiscent of an industrialised Cradle Of Filth . This makes it very hard to review this album as a cohesive whole so I will just review it for the music it presents across the course of its 46 minute length . The album has some interesting ideas but they are not pulled off very well and I think Aborym should decide on a distinctive sound for their next album instead of trying to cram to much into one disc and focus more on refining the songs that they write instead of just chucking an unexpected style of music in the middle of them . Not bad , not earth shattering .
