JOVAN CVIJIC HIGH REBUILDING AFTER FIRE
Mural to be finished when work is completed
By Dusan Davidovic and Major David Cooper, USMC
Dusan and 6 other students at the “Jovan Cvijic” secondary school in Strpce
municipality, Kosovo, Yugoslavia, are working in cooperation with students
in Xhedvdet Doda
secondary school in Pristina, Kosovo, Yugoslavia, and in Holmdel High school,
New Jersey, to create a global project promoting peace and understanding.
“Jovan Cvijic High School” supports and provides education in a wide range
of subjects, including pharmaceutical, medical, legal, economics, etc. Upon
completion of the curriculum in one of these fields the students are prepared
to begin a career in the field or to proceed on to university.
Like all the people and administration in Strpce are aware that fatal day
15th of May our school “Jovan Cvijic” was caught by an enormous fire in
which the entire se
cond floor was destroyed. Also great part of first floor was destroyed
too, on which there were many school cabinets: physics, biology, computers,
also a few offices in which were data’s archive of great importance for
the school.
Fortunately, internet center, place where the Global Connections mural
is, is not damaged a lot, but because of the fire total equipment is was
destroyed. Until now we just finished the shape of the future mural, and
now the people of Strpce are concentrated on school reconstruction as soon
as possible, so regarding all that works on project has been postponed on
indefinite period of time.
We are very sorry because the started project will not be finished on time,
and especially we are sorry for Mrs. Jill Cerqueira. She initiated the whole
project, and is devote to it. Many times she was separated from her family,
and she also managed to find money to finance the project on the way that
is known only to her.
But this whole situation is not going to make us to give up from mural,
we are going to do our best to finish the project during of after the school
reconstruction. This will be a great stimulant for the future, for us, to
do bigger and more important projects
