Trivia #1 - William G. Morgan, the inventor of volleyball, met and became friends with James Naismith, the inventor of basketball. Naismith convinced Morgan to move to Springfield Ma. and become the physical education director at a YMCA. Morgan observed that basketball was too stenuous for some people to play, this led to him inventing volleyball.

Trivia #3 - The new FIVB colored Volleyball Gameball underwent extensive testing in competition before being accepted for the world championships in Japan. The ball, which has blue, yellow and white panels in contrast to its all-white predecessor, was used in qualifying tournaments involving 20 men's teams and 20 women's teams. The tournaments were played in 10 countries over a four month period in five regional group areas. A survey was conducted among players, coaches, technical delegates, officials and television networks before giving the ball the stamp of approval.
