Trivia #14 - In 1957, the FIVB organized a promotional men's tournament in Sofia with the best teams of the world to convince the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to approve Volleyball as an Olympic sport. As a result of the very successful tournament, played outdoor in front of the main tribune of the National Stadium with more then 30,000 spectators on the stands, Bulgaria emerged as the winner and the IOC approved Volleyball as an Olympic sport. It was first played in the Olympics in 1964 in Tokyo. |
