Thailand is the center of volleyball in Southeast Asia. Thailand is where the FIVB Development Center is located. The Thailand FIVB Volleyball Development center has been operating for nearly six years and has proven to have a good impact on the region it covers. Since 2002 it has benefited from the support of the Sports Authority of Thailand. The establishment has a High Performance Training center from which all Thai and Asian players can benefit. This facility includes three indoor courts and a weights room. There is also a well-equipped office and a multi-purpose room at the Center. Approximately three courses are held each year with more than 15 participants attending each course. About 28 countries in the region support and use the center including several nations of Oceania as well as Asia. Thailand Development Center has been involved in the organization of major regional and international competitions such as the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour, Asian Women's Club Tournament, World Qualification Tournament and the World Grand Prix. A recent upsurge in the growth of Volleyball in Thailand is testament to the popularity of the sport and the significant role the Development Centre is playing in the country. Since opening in 1996, the centre has been a source of development for coaches, referees, statisticians and sports administrators throughout the Asia zone. The centre has hosted seminars for coaches of volleyball as well as much-needed courses necessarily required in improving their volleyball standard. |
