| DEBATE This Institute gained its ideas from debate. The idea that "why" was the key question and that it was important to gain insight from questioning and researching issues from the surface down to the very foundation of issues. Because of this, we are going to be promoting debate in many forums. First, there will be pages for debaters in high school that we deal with at the debate camps we work at. Second, there will eventually be an online debate set up, where debates are done and judged by email. Third, where research can be done via many internet tools. Since many debaters don't have access to tools like Lexis in high school or on the internet, we are going to accumulate resources so that this can be a springboard to research for debaters. However, this idea of debate is based on all forms of debate, not just policy. So we will be working on areas of philosophy, politics, narratives, etc., in an effort to promote debate in all its forms. For debaters, do not use our articles in debate rounds while we are on a geocities website, it won't look good to source cite us until we are a .org to your judges. However, we will have plenty of quality links later for you. We may also start doing debate briefs later that may be bought for a price, though that has yet to be determined and is probably something for the year 2003-4 topic. But we are recruiting some fantastic debaters and researchers from college debate who may be willing to do so and sell their packets here. Response has been good so far. We seek to keep the confidentiality of our hs debaters because of their age, thus they will be given nicknames for many if there is anything to be posted from them at all. We also will be putting caselists or links to caselists here so that debaters may know what cases are out there and who is running them. We would also like your ideas for links and your submissions of cases you saw at tournaments near you. We will post them here for you. Eventually, we may post things like tournament results, etc., as we get them from either the high school debate listserv or from debaters. When we post our own internet tournaments, we will also post results and we may have different divisions for prizes eventually, though at first, they may be just to say you won our tournament. That has yet to be determined. Eventually, we would like to host a high school division for free download files of evidence, maybe a college version, and a free for all version where articles or books published by our institute are given away free as an autographed copy. All of that is in the preliminary stages. For now, we are working on internet pages that will have resources, case lists, links, etc., to help high school debaters. We have a core group from a camp or two this year to start with. It is up to you to determine how far we go based on your responses. -GFI Email your comments to: [email protected] |
